Hi Everyone. I am new here. I came here because I have been dating a man who says he has bipolar. We have been dating for a little over a year. We were friends for a few months before starting to date which is when he told me about his diagnosis. I love him and he loves me also. I am here to try to understand him a little better. He is 50 years old. Lives in a routine, like for reals lives in a routine which rarely changes. It was a slow go for he and I because of his routine but the more he got comfortable with me, the more I was "in" his routine. He says he does not take any medication. Im not sure how true that is cause when he is here, he takes a pill which he tells me is a multivitamin. Could be true and I never thought anything of it. He smokes marijuana daily which helps his mood.
He wakes up at the same time everyday, has his coffee, listens to Godly inspirational messages, reads the bible, and listens to spiritual music. He stays with me about 4 nights a week. He works 2 jobs. I would like to know more about bipolar. Is there a mild version vs a more severe version? I know some about his past, he tells me things very slowly..meaning not all at once. I also deal with depression caused by a medical condition. Love makes my depression symptoms great and also not so great based on me trying to figure him out.
I want to learn more about bipolar so I can learn to understand him and not take things personally if they arent meant personally

It is good your boyfriend has a routine but I also think medication is necessary. A routine can be a form of holding control but then what does your boyfriend do if his schedule is changed one day? You are a person in his life now and have your own routine to mesh with his. The problems can potentially begin if he can't respect that.
