I know I am NOT going to get much support for this.....BUT my marriage is falling apart. I am too fat because of my meds Lost my sex drive due to meds.....But I can say the happiest time of my life was when
I was med free for six whole months and didn't suffer from one single episode. I would post in the bipolar forum but people would rag on me and not see my side of things because they probably think something is wrong with them that they have to be medicated and someone living with bipolar without meds....that just can't be. I've posted about this before. I am STUCK. I am miserable. I feel like I am a burden. And
I was contributing more around the house when
I was not medicated than I do now and was more active. I just don't see how meds are benefiting me right now and would like to go off of them and see. The only reason why I went back on meds and started to see a pdoc was because I was paranoid all the time and couldn't stand it. BUT if I was fine for 6 months unmediated who says I won't be fine longer. And if I am wrong and psychosis does come back I can always get medicated again. But why be on meds if it's making me miserable in my own body? Don't I have the right to be happy?

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

On the flip side of the coin both my BP children and GF (who is also BP) at this moment are unmedicated. I would love for this to not be true especially where my oldest is concerned as she has some dozy manic episodes but all three of them are adults and I can't make that call for them.
I don't advocate anyone going off their meds. We all know what comes of that and whether its 3 days or 6 months in the end we crash and we crash hard usually. Best of luck BPP which ever you decide to do.
The alternative is marriage councelling, learn to communicate with your husband, learn to please one another without libido. I went through years with "no libido" but with open communication, affection and attention toward my husband, we were able to survive it. Another option with your weight gain is to seek the direction of a good nutritionist. My guess is that the health clinic at your college has one. We cant have it all, we have to choose.
I will never go off meds again and I will never recommend that either of my sons do. I would rather teach them healthy alternatives to nurturing relationships and living with good self esteem.
My suggestions would be to see if you can get your psychiatrist to see this, or to find one that does.
I have to say, from this and other posts in BP..that I think your husband is being unfair. I'm of an age and experience to accept that women, bipolar or not, do experience changes in shape and libido over the years. Usually they are more aware of it than their husbands and it really is a curse for some. They don't need someone drawing attention to it. The least you can do as a man is have the balls to deal with it in a supportive manner. Having gone through this experience myself in past relationships I really don't have much sympathy for men whining about this stuff, it is not, to coin a very old concept "the behaviour of a gentleman".
