Incognita
I've been away from this site for a long time but have felt myself drawn back to it because I need support in this department and don't know where to go.
Months ago I briefly dated a girl with unmedicated bipolar. It was wonderful in the beginning, but as we grew closer to the anniversary of a traumatic event for her, she became verbally abusive and hostile so I had to get out of the situation because I refused to subject myself to an abusive relationship.
Some of the collateral damage in this series of events was losing a friendship with someone we both were friends with. My ex was all "fun and games" where I was the serious one, so I can't blame my friend for siding with her. I bumped into this friend a week ago at a party and tried telling her that I wanted to be friendly and hug her but wasn't sure if it was okay because she had cut ties with me. I know it came out wrong cuz she left the room, and someone later informed me it had upset her.
I apologize for miscommunicating and tell her I want things to be okay between us. She responds in anger, lashing out at me and saying I had been spreading rumors and lies about her. My thoughts immediately went to my ex, and how she twisted what I said when we were together.
I'm here because I suspect that my bipolar ex, while manic, probably twisted things we had talked about privately so she could get my friend to side with her. Or somehow thinks that I really did say the cruel things I've been accused of.
I would like to know if other family/loved ones/friends of those with bipolar disorder have seen lying or twisting the truth type behavior while in an episode. I have two close friends with the disorder but I don't feel comfortable broaching this subject with them.

I find myself going places in the car and not wanting to get out of the car. I come back home and I don't want to get out of the car. I think it's the only time I spend reflecting. Chronic tiredness from Long Covid plus the immunosupressing meds for my Crohn's is slowing me down but everything just seems a massive effort. I am dealing with the paperwork following my father's death but it's not...

Wow, it's the middle of the week already!Today is our 11 year anniversary, so we're going out to a nice dinner. I'm losing a lot of sleep these days, hence a wonky schedule and uncomfortable feelings. But I know it will pass, eventually.I hope all of you have a peaceful day, and may good things come your way!

If you are truely manic then you lose touch with reality and you believe what you are saying. But this sounds like something different.
As for the mutual friend, I find that if I must pursue someone who is choosing believe a lie or to walk away, it's best to let them go. I'm guessing that person will discover the truth eventually. Until then, trust that others will come into your circle who actually want to be with you. That gives you another opportunity to form healthy relationships.
