Adult son being released from Inpatient -again

My 23 yr. old son was hospitalized Feb. 2014 for 3 weeks. The docs at that time thought he had an adverse reaction to Adderall combined with smoking weed. He had to be admitted again 2 weeks ago, and we are pretty sure this time it is Bipolar with Mania. Apparently he went off his meds back in Feb. which we didn't know about. This time we dealt with him for 2 weeks before he was convinced to sign himself in to the hospital. This was after he drove to Colorado alone to visit his brother, scraped up his car somehow out there, blew through a stop light with our car, was hit by another driver, and our car, no longer with collision insurance is in the junk yard. Thank God for no injuries. One day later, while home with me, he called 911 and jumped out his bedroom window. I won't even mention his self centered attitude, insomnia, endless shopping, endless paranoia, and commanding attitude with us.
This hospitalization, the docs were trying to get him into residential treatment, but we are not sure that that will be happening at this point, since he called us tonight and said he will be discharged on Monday and will be coming here.
We are pretty sure he will decline a half day program at discharge, (as he did before), and will get out and want to resume his old life which before this hospitalization consisted of going to sports games, playing on softball leagues, and going around the state getting autographs of famous sports players. (he dropped out of college last year) . To make matters worse, he mostly lived with his Dad the past few years, and has a life and friends in another town. He has full support of my husband, his step-father and trusts him more than me sometimes.
Any advice on dealing with him if he is getting out on Monday? All along he has fighting taking his meds, even while inpatient. Even now, we aren't sure that he has admitted that he has an illness.
We are not sure what to do with him, or how to convince him to get to therapy when he gets out. No word yet from the hospital on any follow-up care plans if he can't get into or agree to residential treatment. I have been researching Bipolar, and am very scared. If he behaves the way he did before this admission, we will be back in the ER within hours of his discharge! Thanks for your comments!

Do you think having anxiety could lead into depression? What are your thoughts?

He was up late last night and was running around all day here and there, stopped here this evening for a jacket and went to watch his buddies play softball. I see the same un-split Seroquel pill on the bathroom counter that was sitting here this morning, so I fear that he isn't taking what he should be. If he is up again tonight, I will need to ask him about it. Thanks again for your kind advice. I am trying to continue my research and find some more information on programs, etc. but this week we are busy trying to find another car to replace the wrecked truck. ; (
Lamictal or Latuda are used as stabilizers in bipolar and can help level out the patient.. I find these two lift people but help them with stability
I hope the car/truck is for you and not for him at this point...He's still not really working with his doctor and doing what he feels like doing.. He's crashed one car already... Until he's being compliant Ups I wouldn't give him another one... Big hug...x
You could ask on the BP board if you decide with him that he wants to apply for disability in you're in the US.. I'm in Canada or if you're in another place a number of us on the BP board have eventually had to go onto it and others work
.. I worked for many years as a nurse however a few years ago my memory started to be badly effected as was my status... However part of that was life as well.. I took care of my parents in their last years and it was very hard on me
It's great he wants to try and work.. It's a good thing whenever possible... I think it's good to try anyway
I hope the appt goes well... Big hug...x
