Does he have any special skills he could use to start his own business? Sometimes it is necessary to be creative and think outside the box. If he does not have any skills and cannot perform hard physical labor, he could go to an 18 to 24 month vo tech school to pick up some skills. Some of these jobs may sound absurd, but I will throw them out there anyway-------plumber, laying carpet, light construction, some type of roofing, landscaping, welding, car detailing, electrician, HAV, etc. There are a lot of ways to make money. You can just sit around and think of all the people who work for themselves, and you would be surprised at the number of possibilities.
This past summer I had a new vinyl locking floor put down in my entire house. It is not difficult, but I did not have time to mess with it. I had a terrible time finding someone qualified to do the job, as everyone gripes about not having a job, but nobody wants to work. Around here, you cannot find people to do repair jobs.
One of the guys I know from prison learned welding while there. He now makes very good money, and his boss does not care if he is a sex offender. Another guy could not find work, so he started mowing lawns with a riding mower and has since branched out into landscaping.
If a person is good at what he does, most people will not care if he is a registrant. I can guarantee you that if your bathroom is backed up with six inches of water because of a clogged toilet that you would not care if a former sex offender showed up to fix it.
If he does not want to go the business-for-himself route, he will have to look at some "mom and pop" store or local business where they don't even care or do not do background checks. Places like Wal Mart or corporate businesses are out of the questions as they do background checks.
Here are some sites with several places that hire felons. I know sex offenders are a different matter than felons, but it will give you an idea.

Keep an open mind and explore your possibilities. Do your reading and do some research.
Above all, do NOT give up. There is something out there for him, but you just have to be patient and find it.
