My fellow posters, this is why I do not like detectives, prosecutors, or any law enforcement other than the cop on the beat.
These exonerations due to either prosecutorial misconduct or lying cops in an investigation in an effort to send innocent men or women to prison, sometimes to death row, are becoming a real problem in America.
And this was a WOMEN who spent 22 years on death row; and she was innocent.
In fact, this police misconduct is becoming a troublesome habit.
A DETECTIVE lied. Yes, our friends, a detective. Some of you may know these wonderful fellows who sometimes dress up in a suit and tie. Not only not being able to keep their stories straight, they also lie more and tell naive defendants that if they co-operate they can cut a special deal with the prosecutor.
I would not normally post this here and only post it at the Wrongful Conviction board, but this ties into the heated discussion we had yesterday. And also, this case is the perfect example of what happens in many false convictions in sex offenders cases. Lying policeman, who commit perjury to give the DA a win.
I had two buddies in prison who were convicted of sex offenses that suffered the same thing as this lady-----a detective lied under oath to convict them. And BOTH were lies regarding a so-called "confession" they made to the detective.
The other reason I posted it here is that this case is an example of a "he said, she said" situation as we all too often see in sex offender cases, and of course, in this case the jury believed the detective.
So, this is a word to anyone out there who might get entangled with law enforcement in the future. Don't talk to cops. They are not your friends, so to think otherwise is foolish.
" The trial became a he-said/she-said contest between the two. Ultimately, the jury believed the detective and convicted Milke of murder."
And this, my fellow posters, is why you NEVER talk to cops unless your attorney is right there with you.
This is a sickening, pervasive problem we have in America.

But as I said, many sex offender cases are just like this one----------"a he said, she said" situation which pits the accused either against a victim who is lying or a policeman who wants a conviction.
Also, I try to educate those in case they are ever in an interrogation situation. It is too late for many here on our board to tell them to never talk to police if they are a suspect, but a few readers out there might benefit from it and it will possibly save them a lot of heartache.
