Most state DOCs have slightly different rules for those convited of a sex offense as compared to those in the general population convicted of a non-sexual crime.
He should ask his case manager or one of the prison staff that works in the mail room before you send anything like that. Since you are comfortable contacting the prison, I would call the warden's office for clarification on this.

However he wasn't in for a long custodial sentence so had it been longer I don't know if I would send photographs or not. One of the prisons he was in had a strict no images of minors policy which was the sex offenders prison that only housed local offenders.
Id definitely check on the prisons policy regarding them.

I will not send my husband pictures of my girls for many reasons.
I doubt that they will do anything to your son, since he was never told anything about having a picture of the victim.
Even if you sent in the picture, the most they can do is just refuse to allow him to have it; but it would be wise to call the prison and make sure.

FYI--i have to brag on him...he was transferred to minimum security just after New Years. He's only been in prison a little over a year. That was something he's worked very hard for.
