Stay away from any state in the Bible Belt. Florida is toxic for sex offenders and Alabama is not much better.

Oklahoma, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida, and Missouri are really bad; there are other bad ones but I am trying to picture the US map in my head while typing.

Ohio is not good, I remember.

I think Oregon is reasonable as is Utah. California, no. If you can stand the cold weather, you might check the Dakotas or Montana. We have a couple of members from Wisconsin that can tell you about that state and about Minnesota too.

On the Atlantic coast, I am not sure about Virginia, Georgia, or the Carolinas, but we have some members there who can chime in

Some of the New England states are not too bad, but the cost of living up there is steep.

I know that Florida is the worse and Alabama is not that much better. I do not know anything about Indiana.
It's best to search for "Sex Offender Restriction" for the state you are interested in. Some state are mandatory lifetime registration regardless of your sentence. You have to weigh this when selecting the state you want to move to.

And of course asking here your should get an answer to your questions....

I also believe that Vermont and New Hampshire are not bad.

Rew... You are fast!! Even though South Carolina is in the heart of the bible belt I find it to be the most reasonable amongst it's neighbors although it is currently lifetime (Soon to change according to my PO...)

It should also be noted that once any particular state becomes "the most desirable state.." those laws will quickly change.... :(

Vermont better than New Hampshire...

moving to SC because they have been the nicest dealing with me, the wife. Haven't experienced that before.

yousodumb and I have exchanged many posts about the South Carolina area, So long as you know it's registration for life (currently) and that only 5 offenses in involving children require living restrictions and/or GPS. The rest are fairly normal. So being in the heart of the bible belt it's not so bad...

I'm in Alabama. It really is not so bad here, But we are out in the country (at least 15 miles from town in any direction). We have never been harassed by the police. I would stay away from the big cities (Birmingham, Montgomery etc.) We live directly across the street from a church and have been invited on several occasions. They have even gone as far as to bring us food when they are having a singing or homecomming.

Alabama does have lifetime registration no mater what the charge (no tier levels).

In general stay out of the middle of the country and the south east and south west. Go to the north east or the north west.

Does anybody have any idea on how hawaii (island of oahu) is with SO's? My husband would like to join the family and I here since I have a good job for the next 4 years or so. I am just trying to see what our options would be.

Idk anything about Hawaii or Indiana. MD is AWA but it's not too bad. Probably about the worst is that they put everybody on the website with your full address. There are no restrictions for anything except for knowingly being on school or child daycare property(however, you are allowed to go vote if a school happens to be your voting place), no special marks on your dl, no registry fees. My son's probation restrictions aren't too bad and his po is nice. Where we live, no one bothers us.
Washington DC is also pretty good and their website only gives a partial address but it's expensive to live there.
