My son got moved from High/Medium (which he should have NOT been) to LOW/Medium two days ago. This was after much calling, writing, e-mailing and basically harassing the jail to find out why my son was not where he was supposed to be. Anyway, he called yesterday and told me they were moving him to Minimum in the middle of the night. He was not in LOW/Medium more than 26 hours before they told him they were moving him to minimum. What is the difference between the two? This is NOT a federal charge, his DA managed to beat that. So my question is, what is the difference between LOW/MEDIUM AND MINIMUM?
In Oklahoma, minimum was the lowest security an inmate could go unless he went to some kind of work release. Sex offenders were not eligible for work release in Oklahoma and I doubt that they are eligible in any other state except for a very few exceptions.

In my experience, every person dealing with a sex offense charge starts in high or medium. Generally after conviction, they are reclassified. I ended up going from high - to medium then to minimum (medium was 2-3 weeks). I spent almost four months in minimum before I got out. My total time was less than a year. I was also moved to a separate building and was eligible for other programs when I was in minimum.
I was moved from medium to low after dinner one day, and it was almost dark. That does happen. I cannot speak as to being reclassified twice in one day. Be thankful that he is in minimum. Lower classifications in county jails tend to have more people and more freedom.
