There are several here on the boards that will tell you how bad it is in Florida.

Stay away from the Bible Belt states. Their politics are usually fueled by the "tough on crime" crowd and they detest sex offenders.

There is another fairly recent thread on this board that deals with moving to other states, but a sex offender would have to have some kind of death wish to move to Florida from another state. I can understand it if a sex offender already lived in Florida, but not if one wanted to move there.

I agree to stay out of this state it's one of the worst!!! I don't know how you feel about North Dakota but I read their website and it sounds like at least they have some sense. There is no tier system in Florida. North Dakota has a tier system and no living restrictions. It actually says on their website everyone deserves to live somewhere!

And once Sharon Florida registry you're on for life and even after you're dead!

fla is beautiful if your not on the registry , but other wise like people said on here im sure its the worst place to move to . many people have to sleep in the marsh of swamps . and under bridges . and also , the signs of being a sex offender will be in your yard as i read about also . wed like to move out of tenn someday . , but dont know where to go either. ..the neighbor hood knows all about my husband . they was outside few times jabbing away . years ago . staring down our way . , but they havent done nothing but that .so far so good . the nice thing about it is my husband mom is right across the street from us . so we can have family to talk to and go visit . but shes 84 yrs old be 85 in august. ughh which means shes very old and shes at the age where she may pass away someday too . then we have no one ..so we would want to get out of here and move somewhere with no hard laws restrictions and no defaming with signs .

What ever you do do not move to any state in the bible belt we've all said it before stay away from FLORIDA it's the worst state in this country when your on the registry

Two states to COMPLETELY avoid at all costs! And Florida is one (no offense but Texas is the other). Go to youtube and search for Florida and sex offender. It will give you a good view of what SOs are going through down there. Good luck on your move.

i've heard more problems about Florida on this board but hardly anything about texas

Texas has the proud distinction of adding the most new names to their registry every month – Florida is 2nd. They should be SO proud …

I actually live in FL...i'm not an SO (my son is currently incarcerated on CP charges)...
And as much as you and your loved one would be welcome in my home....i could not im good conscience recommend you moving here. There are severe resident restrictions...job outlook is not good...and the overall pettiness associated with being on the lifetime registry is just too much.
Also..remember...even if you have been convicted in another state..and u move to FL..u have to abide by FL laws. Also..in most cases...even if u visit FL for 5 days or more..u have to rrgister with the authorities here.
All in all..it is a sucky existence...please find a state that doesn't have its head firmly planted in its own ass.

Find someplace that does not have automatic lifetime registration. Also, moving to a large, older urban area keeps LE off your back. They are too busy dealing with real crime.

I moved me and my business out of Florida last year. My son is still in prison and will be out in about 7 months.
He would have been homeless if I stayed there. Here, in PA , he has a home and a job .. But they can still keep him there if they choose. So far he's coming home to PA. You never know what they'll do last minute tho. I worry about that. FL sucks.

Nakohichi - yes be very careful! Have you spoken with the PA authorities to make sure what your son will be subjected to in PA? I understand that Fla is famous for telling SO's that all is set and ready for them to move and then we they leave the state fla puts them as absconded and they get picked up. I have also heard that fla keeps any SO on the registry even if they move legally. They put their address as the new one but keep them on the list. After all is settled int he new state I would fight fla on that!

But i think FL would still list him..but with his out of state address...but again..not sure on that...seems weird to be listed on 2 states registry....
