One thing I have noticed in the past several years is that DAs are more reluctant to drop the charges that they were years ago. Even if the complaining witness or victim no longer wants to participate in the case and does not wish to testify, the DA tries to find a way to entice the defendant to plead or go to trial. They do not like to drop the charges.

I was offered a plea for five years in October of 1991, but I turned it down. Plea offer in October and trial the following May.
