Good behavior.
I was in a medium security prison at the state level, so I will tell you what programs we had there. An inmate could earn a maximum of 90 days per year good time credits by taking certain rehabilitative programs. They had a piddly drug course which gave 30 days, a Rational Behavioral Training course which gave an inmate 30 days, 90 days for a GED, 90 days for being a tutor, 90 days for completion of a Vo tech course, etc. There were several programs available.
I was a tutor so I received an extra 90 days per year.
I am sure the federal system is not nearly as generous with their good time. I know you have to do 85% of your sentence, but I don't know which programs might possibly allow some extra good time.
Your son can ask some of the other inmates when he gets settled in prison and I am sure they can tell him if there are any programs available.
BTW, an attorney is not a good source for anything regarding prison. They have never been there and they only know what they have been told.
Coolrich was in a federal facility. I am sure he can give you more definitive answers than I can.

I think that his best bet for getting good info is going to be as rew said, as other inmates when he finally gets to wherever they are going to keep him.
And yes, his attorney has no real clue.
