You are missing the point - teach children to be afraid of a rattlesnake but not all snakes just because .... and exactly who would be the rattlesnake? The point of this conversation was that the people THINK are the rattlesnakes are not and the ones that appear to be the garter snake might be the ones to be afraid of ...

So what is scary about a rattlesnake? Yes they may be dangerous. Yes they can poison you. But more than likely they are more afraid of you than you are of them. So do we teach our children to be afraid?

I say no. We teach our children there is good and bad. And then we teach them how to deal with it. A garter snake may be harmless until you trip over them and break your neck. A rattlesnake may be dangerous until he slithers away.

Its about education like i said. Its about not labeling people. Its about loving and forgiveness.

Case isnt closed. Jury is still out. You can chose how you want to live your life.

I chose to talk to my daughter about the man she loved. I chose to support him even though he committed a crime and is now "labeled" a sex offender. I chose to teach my daughter that sometimes good people make mistakes. Doesnt make them a rattlesnake! In fact doesnt make him a snake at all. I will not label him. I will love him and support him.

This is such a complex situation it is difficult to debate it. There are people out there who are really poisonous but appear to be nice. I've written about psychopaths before. Even that is not black and white. It seems that people can be born without the ability to understand people's emotions. Understanding of emotional facial expressions is hard-wired in the brain, except in psychopaths.

That does not mean that every psychopath is incapable of having a conscience because they don't have to ability to understand the feelings of others. Persons with psychopathy can be recognized by brain scans, but not all have the trademark behaviors.

As West says, the difference is love. If a child is raised in a loving environment, even with a psychopathic brain, they can lead a socially conscious life because they have learned to care for others instead of manipulating them.

We talk about pedophiles. Perhaps non offending pedophiles are the ones who have been raised in loving environments where they have learned self respect, so also learn to respect others. We do the worst thing possible with pedophiles. i.e., we treat them like dirt. What a way to make a sex offender! Persons with pedophilia need love, respect and validation of their goodness just like all the rest of us.

If our society was really serious about protecting children, we would provide validation and support for minor-attracted persons, just like they do in Germany. But, of course, our society is far more interested in be hateful than being helpful. Its too bad. Too bad for children, too bad for adults, too bad for everyone.

I was thinking of this conversation when I was teaching class last night -I agree with West. I told my class I do not believe there are intrinsically evil people - I believe there are people that do evil things but they are still humans - I also told them that before judging and pointing fingers they should search their own private demons (a little food for thought) lol .

I saw a documentary where this man was saying "yea, I am a pedophile (through genetics or whatever), I am attracted to young children", he said, "but I do not actually act on the desire, and never have."

Interesting to see someone with a "pedophile mindset", yet he has the wherewithal not to harm others or act on his impulses. Of course, the politicians will pull a Minority Report and preemptively oppress him anyways.

Yeah registered, that's what most people do not understand, that pedophile is not synonymous with sex offender. The media and politicians use the word to mean the same thing. Pedophile and pedophilia are medical terms, while sex offender is a legal term. It confuses the issue because the media and politicians confuse the issue. They will say a 21 year old man having sex with a 15 year old makes him a pedophile. That we need to lock up our children when this guy is around. Why? Because he is attracted to 15 year olds? That is not pedophilia. He may be a sex offender, but he is not attracted to children biologically (15 is not a child as far as science is concerned, however 15 is still a child legally). That's the confusion, it's legal vs medical.

So, I bought this book called, The Anatomy of Violence, by a guy named Raine. He talks about how greater understanding of brain function will allow us to identify future criminals for better or for worse. There are really a lot of deep moral issues involved with this. Whether we like it or not, this kind of science is going to infringe on what we think about the topic. Again...for better or for worse.

Johnson - check with the sheriff office or whoever does your registration - my sons has the statute number on it (he is SO) I agree that FL you should leave if you can but choose wisely - get lots of info before making any move. If you are on paper some states will make you follow FL rules etc. and some even if you are off paper.

I am not sure if you are designated a Predator whether it will say those words on the license - I would call and ask at Florida Action Committee

Advocate 2----I got out of fed prison in 2003 and have been living in fl since then. I only had problems during probation, when that stop I really do not have any problems with the sheriff, they come once a year to make sure I live where I should. I just when down for my 6 months checkup with the sheriff office and they did not have any problem with my license which expire in 2017. If they are going to put sexual pred on my license I will tell them I loss my license and use the expire license for a motel or anything that would give me problems and use the new one for the cop and sheriff dept .I have to stay in Fl for my mother I am her caretaker

Oh, Johnson, These rules are so pathetic! I had a meeting with my lawyer today. She is making a living now representing sex offenders, especially in civil commitment cases. She said she often works with the people in the AG's office in our state. She said they wouldn't care of the person they wanted to put into commitment was actually innocent. She described the people who put people into civil commitment as zealots. She used that word several times with emphasis.

Here's a definition of zealot: a person who is fanatical and uncompromising in pursuit of their religious, political, or other ideals.

We are in the hands of FANATICS! As we all know, sex offender rules have NOTHING to do with safety. They are about appeasing fanatics. I have my theories about how this happened, which are presently very politically incorrect so I won't go into it.

I feel sorry for ALL OF US that are stuck in this massive web of deceit. And that includes your mother, who needs you. If FL-DUH decides that all of a sudden you can't take care of her, what is going to happen to her? I'm not saying that to scare you but thinking of the many stories I have read on this site, you never know what level of insanity might be headed our way next.
