That is a lot more than I received every Christmas in state prison. We usually got something like a box of
Cracker Jacks, a few pieces of hard candy, and an apple-----and that was it. I always gave mine away.

We did have a decent turkey dinner, although a couple of times the turkey made everyone sick and they wound up being treated for food poisoning.

My D got some Christmas cards socks, a pen and some candy from the salvos this year.

My son is looking forward to his birthday meals. His friend Mango usually cooks for him.. and he gets a 'prison' cake. I've heard the recipes and find them pretty interesting. I was told Thanksgiving was pretty good. He's in federal tho so I'm sure it's a little different than state. He got a peach pie on turkey day as well.
With Xmas coming up and a New year's meal as well that are a lot better than the soy patties they usually get. My son is lucky. I send him commissary money so he gets a little better food than a lot of the guys in there.
I have an 'adopted' inmate, Daniel, who is in Medium. My son met him in county when he was waiting for his transfer. He watched out for my son and now I consider him family. I put money into his commissary at times like now. Daniel tells me it's all about the food. Not much else to look forward to.

I remember way back in the day when my oldest brother was in prison (nothing to do with sex offense) probably like in 1993 or around then. Anyways, every year the saturday before Christmas, every inmate was allowed one xmas package up to like 15lbs and basically we got a box and filled it with 14 lbs worth of whatever groceries we wanted to buy him and with the left over pound got him a large pizza from pizza hut. We dropped it off , it was checked briefly for contraband and usually he got the pizza while it was still warm...hard to believe, right??

My husband tells me they will get a little something from the church for Christmas - basically hygiene stuff - better than nothing. Plus the church gave every inmate 3 Christmas cards for them to send to family.
I think this year I will buy some extra boxes of Christmas cards after Christmas and save them and hopefully be able to donate them to the prison my husband is in next year at Christmas.

At the prisons where I live, not the one my son is at, a group of ladies bakes each inmate and c.o. a dozen of the best cookies I have ever tasted. How I know how good they were, an ex neighbor of mine worked at the prison and shared them with me. I was mentioning this to someone at work and a woman standing by us said. That is my group that does that. What a wonderful thing to do, can not even imagine how many cookies they have to bake.

I have to check with county to see what we're allowed to donate i just aquired a bunch of socks and undies cheap at kmart

I know several local churches visit Juvenile Hall and provide the kids there a Christmas meal, and spend time with them. Each group takes a pod of about 15 kids.

I remember that "goodie" bag. I got it in '98 and '99. Not there for it in '00. I was not disappointed. We did a lot of trading!

My son waited to eat his treats until yesterday. It was his birthday. He usually keeps to a pretty strict diet. He says either you get out of prison fat or fit. he picked fit.
Yesterday he ate so much junk he got sick. Boxes of cookies, candy bars, chips. And then he had a 'meat pie'.
Only after he was done pigging out he gave away what he had left. He gets out in 11 days. He'll also be giving away what he has left from commissary then.

Wow, what fun for a fine young man :-)

The pre-release give away is something I did also. I tried to help out the guys that had nothing. There were many of them.
