Paraphrasing here big time but the most recent report that was issued by the US National Sentencing board said something to the effect that while known contact abusers do often have porn collections not all folks that have porn collections commit contact crimes - you also have to throw in the variable that today many of these folks with the CP are under 25 yrs of age. These are young men that have a world of porn at the click of a mouse - something that generations before did not have - these same young men do not yet have the maturity to handle the addiction or what they are exposed to. If you look at the numbers of people being arrested for CP and think about that you would have to also concede that the incidence of true pedophilia has grown in leaps and bounds - I certainly am not a doctor or psychologist but even I know that is highly unlikely.

My son and I have talked several times about the incident - one thing I took away from him was that as the addiction progressed it was not about sexual gratification anymore - it became more about fascination.

True I get what you are saying about the comparison of slasher movies etc. however, and I bet this is true for most young people that have viewed CP of any type, it was not until after he was arrested etc. that it actually became clear to my son that the people in the porn were not necessarily there willingly. I know that is a huge leap for those of us that are more mature but when you read about mental development of young people it becomes more clear how this can be true. I do know that when the realization dawned on my son I saw him cry. So to these young people the porn they are viewing is in many ways no more real than a slasher movie.

I agree Hank - I know that in my sons case - 4 years of testing him and polygraphs and treatments all came back with the conclusion that he does not have any deviant sexual tendencies. Does it do him any good? No, not now but someday it might Why they give these tests in FL I will never know becasue they do not use them in any way.

In fact, something just dawned on me! This is not scientific in any way but for instance I can tell you that the fact that my son was addicted to porn is one thing - but they thought of that porn being anything less than consensual made him cry - that sounds like someone who is devastated by the thought of contact crime.

Also, since we know most contact crime is by someone known to the suspect that contradicts the idea of porn which is highly anonymous.

i totally agree with you on what they perceive at real, harmful or illegal.

a lot of people (even though I have yelled at for this) think they are watching something on TV, if it is on tv it must be ok. just naïve people. and I have heard of men who were molested as children just looked to see if that was the kind of thing that was perpetrated on them as a child. Not all people act on things they see. I watched the godfather and silence of the lambs and never went out to kill someone...I might think about it, but wouldn't do it.. just common sense.

yousodumb - yes I have heard that also - that many people that look at CP are looking becasue of past incidents in their lives.
