As I read the stories of the wives, mothers, and family members of loved ones in prison, I am reminded how different the visiting procedure has become from the one I experienced in prison several years ago.

When I was in prison, we received real in person visits, contact visits. The inmate could hold hands with his loved one, sit beside her, even put his arm around her. No, the inmate could not get too carried away and the only kisses allowed were when the visitor first arrived and when the visitor departed, but the entire procedure was much more humanistic than what we have today.
It is apparent to me that we, as a people, as slowly losing some of our humanity. I see this every day when I see how mean-spirited people have become.

I was alone in GA and after she left and I was moved around a bit, I was left all alone. My last visit was Fathers Day 2010. I rode out for 4 more years with no visits and minimal calls. To have the opportunity to interact with my son and wife even through glass, or through 'Skype' would have been an amazing treat for me; but not to replace the whole visit process.
However, I have seen some pretty sickening things people do w/ contact visits, so it's not really a surprise.
