Today will be a day that will go down in history like many others in the past. Today is the beginning of the second Holocaust. Remember this day, February 1st 2016. When I thought things could not get any worse, they do and will continue to get worse. All our worst fears are being executed. In the eyes of politicians, everyone of us are monsters, everyone one of us is a time bomb ready to attack. Anyway to get votes and put fear in the brains of citizens. I am done people, THIS LIFE SUCKS. Am I even a citizen anymore? Do I have ANY rights? The answer is NO. I am no more then a picture to be looked at and scorned. I have no legacy for my children, I cant even travel the world with them and show them all the beauty, because they think i am going to do something to a minor. ENOUGH!!!!!!! ENOUGH!!!!!! ENOUGH!!!!!

I am afraid that Coastie is right, OB will sign the bill. You need to go read this bill. It goes way beyond just stamping a passport. This bill will allow the U.S. to peddle their influence in other countries. Not only are your travel plans being sent to the local police where you are going but some NGO's will be notified as well. When you travel outside the U.S. the SMART office sends a message to the police that you are are coming there to commit a crime. Now I have lived in Central America and I can tell you that the police there can be as violent as the drug gangs. One time I watched them shot a man and leave him on the street all because they caught him sealing a light bulb. Normally they don't really bother Americans but these actions are not going to sit very well with them. I'm really not sure what they would do. Remember you won't be turned back from all countries and it is possible to enter countries on a temp pass off a cruise ship. Since people must carry identification police randomly stop buses and stop people on the street to check out who you are. Can't wait till they see someone with one of these stamped passports. I am very afraid this law will put people into danger and this includes anyone who is traveling with them. Remember when you travel of live in a foreign country you fall under their laws and the American Constitution means nothing to them. I am very much afraid that this will end travel for SO's. It also means extra money to pay for a passport every year. This country is becoming unhinged.

Can't the request to Obama just ask him not to sign the bill? Not to veto, just not sign it. Is that possible?

I don't think President Obama will veto the bill, though he may harbor doubts about its constitutionality. Even if he does veto it, Congress would likely override the veto - with more grandstanding and fear-mongering speeches, coupled with diatribes about how the president and his political cronies don't care about protecting children from violent predators, and on and on and on...

There is no political benefit to vetoing this bill, unfortunately.

I certainly understand the issues with a veto. My question would be can he just not sigh it? I don't know if there is a time factor that once it is sent to his desk he has to either sign or veto.

Cats paw, if he doesn't sign it, it automatically becomes law. He has to veto the bill, to stop it from becoming law.

Here's a brief explanation and list of presidential vetoes. Obama has vetoed nine bills in seven years, a fairly modest number, though he's vetoed a few more bills recently. The veto champion of the world is, even after all these years, still Grover Cleveland.
