Does some one out there have a teen-ager registered as a sex offender? My son was only 15 when he was arrested. Holiday's are the worst for me. When he gets out he is not allowed to come home. I love and miss him so much! :(

Playing doctor is not a sex crime; it is something children do to find out, learn, explore, etc. They just need to be taught, given information, and proper bounderies set in a matter-of-fact way.

At the wildly exponential rate that the registry is growing.....it won't be long b4 all those "lawmakers" will have a relative or they themselves will be on it. That is when it will all start to change. As for my little neck of the woods.....everyone knows my son and the "young lady" that accused him and both families......no one blames my son B/C THEY KNOW HER. And thank God for it.....I don't give two cents what anyone thinks.....my son was the VICTIM - and anyone who thinks differently can most graciously kiss my A$$! And to all those "mothers" out there who would turn their backs on their children b/c they are sex offenders ......I would say that you are w/out a doubt a major part of the problem. A mother NEVER turns her back on her child!!!!! No matter what! My children are my heart and soul walking around outside of my body. Any mother who wouldn't go to the ends of the earth for her child is NOT A MOTHER!!!! ( I am mostly talking to that monster Valligator but also to anyone else who shares her idiocy ). She makes me sick and sorry for anyone that has ever had to call her "mother". Ok.....sorry....end of rant.....and BTW - Happy New Year!!!

i have sorta mixed feelings about this. let's say john joe shmo get's charged and convicted of raping his 8 year old daughter. wife packs up the child and gets a divorce, and changes her last name to her maiden name. the child then goes to school later in her life and someone looks up her last name, and finds out daddy dearest is a violent sex offender. the child then gets bullied and made fun and isolated for the rest of her youth. now here is my question can the mother have the daughter also change her last name to the mother's maiden name without permission of the father? i just think the registry hurts more people than it does to protect the people that it was intended to protect. I'm not against a registry; don't get me wrong, but not a public one. for instance, what is having a name really going to protect? A warning? remember 5.3% re-offend meaning that 94.7% of people that do sexually offend aren't even on the registry in the first place. i dunno maybe some warning is better than no warning, but at what price? does the pro's weight against the cons i guess is what i have to think. is the collateral damage worth it?

Livingenzyme - Then there should be a registry for someone who was arrested for a dui. They made the choice too, but I don't see anyone of them on a hit list. They are far more likely to hurt or kill a kid than someone on the registry. And their recidivism rate is much much higher than any sex offender.

My son was sent to treatment at 15 also. His offenses were all before the age of 13. But it took that long to get through the court system and find an open spot at the treatment facility. He fortunately had a great judge and great lawyer. They lawyer was able to have the judge not require registration once he completed treatment at 17 years old. The lawyer cost me a fortune. But to get my son off that registry was worth every cent. He was still unable to return home because his younger sibling was a victim. They 2 years of intense inpatient treatment at a juvenile sex offender rehab facility worked as far as I know. My son went into an independent living facility and struggled with porn addiction which terrified me at first. He didn't have a job but had had a big cable bill. He hadnt been free since he was 13. He had so much o learn and lived 3 hours from me. He finally decided to move far away and go into job corps in the state that his unle lives in. He never joined job corps but he oved yet further away with his uncle and experimented with drugs and a wild lifestyle for about a year. I was terrified but there was nothing that I could do since he was now an adult. He finally about a year later met a much older woman and settled down. She has teen boys which scares me. The boys are old enough to tell if he were inappropriate. But so far he seems to be content with just having a strong consentual relationship with his girlfriend. That is a concern that will always haunt us. Will our loved one reoffend?
