support letters (CP cases)

We have begun asking family/friends, co workers, etc.. to write support letters on behalf of my husband. I asked my husband's lawyer if he had any thing to kind of follow in writing these and he said no, because then they would all be the same. According to him we are pretty much free to write whatever we want to share with the judge. With that said, I know I've seen postings on this before and I know some have stated the do's and don'ts on what should be in these letters. So, I'm writing to ask if you all wouldn't mind sharing any info you may have on writing a great letter. I don't want to rub the judge the wrong way by writing about something that may offend him, but do want my letter to be powerful to portray what an amazing husband, father, friend, that my husband is. Any tips and advice on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

thank you so much . . . i'm so scared just dropped off 30 letters to the judge to our lawyer over my lunch break, he wanted to chat and told me I would be unrealistic to think he would get lass than 2-3 years, I was hoping for no jail time and he acted like I was crazy, this is 1 ct federal posession CP . . i just don't know what to do, I tried to look up the mortensen case but couldn't find anything

jijo - I'm facing the same thing with my husband. Was your husband offered a plea to get it down to possession or was that all he was charged with from the beginning? Mine took a plea deal, he originally had 1 ct receipt and 1 ct possession, and they dropped the receipt. My husband's lawyer told me last week that my husband will do jail time, it's just a matter of us minimizing how much. I guess I was naive to think he could walk away with supervised release because that doesn't seem to be realistic at this point.

I am in the act same boat ndmarie- i guess I was being naive also, I really thought there would be a chance on only supervised release but his lawyer told me the same thing. THe orig charge was just one ct possession, we went to trial in May, our lawyer was almost certain were were going to get a win and then the jury came back guilty. My husband is innocent so we chose to go to trial, he said he's going to fight until he dies to clear his name but its just so exhausting. The system is so screwed up and i'm just so devistated! When is your husbands sentencing, has he gone through the interviews with the people who recommend sentencing? we are in the last stage of that so thinking sentencing will be some time in Sept or Oct and Lawyer said he'd be gone by christmas, I have a 15 mo old and 4 year old, don't know how i'm going to do it alone!

We are just starting the whole process in preparing for sentencing. My husband hasn't even signed the actual plea agreement yet. As part of the plea agreement, he has to undergo a polygraph, which will happen Thursday, then I'm guessing if he passes he will then sign the plea agreement, but not sure. He did already sign the paper to have the pre sentence investigation done, but they have not started any of that yet. What was all involved in the pre sentence investigation? We don't have a sentencing date, but the attorney feels it will be around November. I'm so sorry you are having to endure this as well. Please feel free to contact me anytime if you just want to talk. My kids are a bit older, they are 5 and 9, I can't possibly imagine having to do it all alone with kids as young as yours. Do you have any family/friends nearby who will be able to help you any? Is your husband still home with you now? My prayers are with you and for all of us dealing with these situations.
