Hello ...new here and I hope I am in the right place or can be redirected if not. My brother committed suicide while being arrested for felony aggravated sexual assault of a child. Months later I am still struggling with grief from both the suicide and the felony arrest attempt. I cannot get past the sickening stigma of this type of crime and past the sadness that my brother was so sick and he had no where to go for help. Sex abuse and addiction, porn addiction is not new to me as both my father (still living) and brother have struggled with it all their lives.
First, I hope to find resources or counsel to deal with the "eww" factor of the crime. I have to admit I have many conspiracy theories which would indicate he was not guilty. We don't talk about it or admit it outside of the family. I always find secrets to be destructive but my family and I would be brutalized in the small communities we live in (my brother lived in a city) should people find out. The police even warned me that I should drop my maiden name on FB and other places so townspeople would not retaliate against my husband and I.

she has a brother and tho they love each other, they are not what i would call real close. sometimes they are like oil and water when they spend time together.
she is quite, shy and somewhat of a loner. she could easily be a isolationist with no problem and that scares me because she does not do well at all when she isolates herself.

I too had a brother who committed suicide, when his soon to be ex-wife accused him of rape. He felt like his life was over, that no matter what the evidence said, he was going to be going to prison. I'm so sorry for your loss. I know what you are going through. I'm glad you found us, but sad that you need us.
2) But the biggest reason is that some inmates feel as it they have to play the "prison game." For some, being in prison is a matter of survival. I never saw it that way, but many do. To prove that they are full-fledged badasses or tough guys, they feel they have to hate sex offenders. True convicts have always hated sex offenders so they have to feel this way to prove they are true convicts; they want to "fit in."
Many of the inmates that spew hate about sex offenders and homosexuals have a sex charge in their past or have had a homosexual experience in prison themselves. So for some, pretending to hate sex offenders is an offensive posture that takes some of the heat off them for their past acts.
You don't see this attitude toward sex offenders as much in a minimum security prison, but it is prevalent in medium security prisons. Medium security prisons are full of wannabe tough guys and they feel they must play the part by attacking sex offenders.
