state to state travel

Hello--


My son is still incarcerated but has asked me to find out how he would hike the Appalachian Trail?  The AT trail goes from Georgia to Maine. I don't know where to find the information for him.  He knows he can't possibly do that until after probation.  Can someone point me in the right direction for info?

The AT has an organization that might be able to tell you. My guess is he won’t be able to as a registered SO. His PO will let him know what he is and is not allowed to do. Being allowed to go state-to-state would not work because he would have to register in every state. I think he will have to wait until he talks with his PO.

My fiance loves hiking and goes all the time. Maybe it's just a state to state thing? But like it was said before some states don't allow registered SO to visit the state without fully registering for that state. I'm sure his PO knows which states do and don't.

The document I created will tell you everything you need. If he is off probation, he can travel from state to state with no worries as long as he does not stay in any one state longer than allowed by that state's statutes.. The tables will give you the information needed.

PS If he is serving time on parole, probation, or any form of supervised release, he will have to have permission from his PO to travel to another state.
