I am from NC. I would not recommend moving here. Pretty strict residency restriction laws. There were 3 or 4 SO's recently arrested for attending the state fair. The laws are ambiguous and contradictory - no social media, and the laws seem to be written so that they can twist that to mean Skype, yahoo, google talk, etc. I'll be happy to answer any specific questions you may have, don't hesitate to ask

i was interested in general info. his girlfriend owns property in NC and the subject was brought up about him moving to NC and them living together. i would hate to see him mess up.

this year, after being on the registry for 7yrs and being told not to worry about halloween, was the very first time anyone has shown up to check on him. he was not at home and now he is scared to death because when he returned the phone call he was told that he was turned in and would be under investigation. this kid had strained himself to the max to stay out of trouble and do everything required for the past 7yrs, and now this!

that's twice in the past 6 months that the sh*t pot has been stirred up for him first finding out about the requirement that his drvs license has to be marked and now this. my heart breaks for him.

First, due to the ambiguity of the laws, it is possible for Tier 1 offenders to be removed after 15 years, but it is up to the discretion of a judge. They can keep you on the list for 30 years. You must check in, in person, twice yearly (unless you're a Tier 3). There are home visits every 3 months. Strict residency restriction, you cannot be anywhere children are known to be - I'm not sure if this includes Wal Mart because kids go to Wal Mart, and they have twisted the laws to fit whatever scenario they want. No social media, and as I stated, it's not clear what that includes.

I am unsure of the rules about moving here, but if I move from NC and then move back, I start the clock over. So, I have 12 years now, but if I move away and come back I'll be back to zero - with the possibility of 30 more years.

I live in NC and it can be rough on RSOs sometimes. My husband has a very difficult time finding a job, although someone at an Auto Parts store have him a chance.

Like anywhere else, I think it really comes down to one's drive and the role of the PO, if applicable. My husband has a really resourceful and helpful PO, but then he moved to another area. His current PO is much less helpful and only gives words to live by. And he sometimes acts like a 'bad word'.

He's also lacking drive. Many others, including myself, try to give him things to accomplish so he can feel proud of himself, but it's the same result-disinterest and depression. He's currently being treated for bipolar and PTSD.

I know I'm all off off topic, but like you said it's important to knows one's rights and regulations of the area in which one lives

Also, I agree with everything the other person from NC said. The laws are very ambiguous. I also heard about the state fair arrests. One of them I could understand because he was fraudulently pretending to be a ride operator. I didn't understand why the other three were arrested. I think current laws says RSOs aren't supposed to be near the Kiddie area of the fair but after these 4 arrests lawmakers are trying to get RSOs banned from the fair altogether. When I told my RSO husband about all of this, he said he didn't know there were any restrictions on him about going to the fair at all. However, he also isn't the kind of guy interested in asking questions and doing research.

I would recommend not coming to NC. I don't know of any states that exactly love RSOs, but NC is probably one of the worst.
