You should be livid. Her sentence was a slap in the face to every mother, wife, GF, or family of either a registrant or a man who has been sentenced and in prison for a sex offense.
There are two things they can do to fix this problem, but each solution is problematic.
One is mandatory sentencing, which takes the sentencing decisions out of the judge's hands. But as we have seen, it has its own problems in that there is no way for a judge to consider mitigating circumstances in some of these cases.
The other method is to vote these DAs and judges out of office that allow such sentences for some, yet throw the book at others-----for similar sex offenses. The DA and the judges are political figures and they have their position because they were elected by the vote of the people.
This probably will not happen since most people don't really care about the disparities in our justice system until it involves their family or one of their loved ones.
How many on this very board cared much about sex offender issues until either they or their loved one got into this mess? I hate to admit it, but I didn't. Nobody cares until it happens to them or affects their family.
This lady received 48 week ends in jail for a contact crime against a 15 year old. It bothers me that many CP defendants or solicitation cases receive years in prison for a non-contact crime----with no actual victim.
Makes no sense, but until we can take the politics out of our criminal justice system, these stories will be common.
