Agreed! Action is better than negative reaction. The rosters are piling up daily and these laws need reform now. I will look into this in Louisiana and start to monitor it so that I may educate myself on the current laws. My fiancee wants to get a jo, wants to participate, but he's concerenced that no one will hire with this scarlet letter and conviction that resulted from a plea deal and a lying allegation that was not dismissed.

California has done an amazing job on all fronts in this battle, congrats!

Great article and so true. I've been thinking about getting more involved especially here in my state that has started to do a study on the effectiveness or lack thereof of the current laws and restrictions.

The folks in California have been able to unite and orgaize against the laws. I cannot think of any state with a more effective chapter in reforming these laws.

But let's also be practical. One reason California is so successful is that you have Janice----an attorney----out there to file civil law suits. Most states do not have a Janice and that puts them at a disadvantage. In California, the threat of civil suits has made some legislators wary, which is not the case in most states.

Once I have my energy back I hope to help with things in the UK. We have nothing, well one charity but the only way to discover them is once the arrest takes place. Only then do you get a leaflet with their number. If you're lucky there would be word of mouth but who talks about it? Laws need changed, Scotland especially as its stuck in the dark ages when it comes to families. No parent should have to be treated like I have, being told I am emotionally damaging my children, and by who? 3 random members of the public with a God complex! Its good to see that someone can make a difference to others in a positive way.

Texas has done a lot, and they don't have an attorney running their organization. Janice has supplied every state her knowledge to help fight the laws. Those states contact the ACLU or another attorney willing to represent them, using what info Janice used to win each lawsuit.

The tide is turning folks...

FAIR in MD has helped stop a lot of nasty bills from passing here, plus we also have Nancy Forster who has helped a lot of RSOs get off the registry.
