Thoughtful article written that makes some good points and shows the absurdity of some of the sex offender regulations.

One point that I like was the fact than even if a registrant fails to notify of an address change in a timely manner, the violation is charged as another sex crime.

This skews the statistics.

I do not agree with author when she says the sex offender registry is needed but she is spot on with some other points in her article.

Except for a few, the comments are encouraging. The public is being educated.

My son was charged with that for staying overnight at his GF's house.
Heres two kickers.
1) If it's a new and separate crime then that demands a new trial which he wont and didn't get.. In fact, it then demands rules of court be used but again, the PB doesn't use it.

2) SCOTUS has defined Change Of Address in a ruling about IRS laws. But...It clearly Defined Change of Address in it's ruling. Google it or ask me and I will find it and post it here.

I am encouraged to see such knowledgeable comments rather than the old "Lock them up and throw away the key..." knee jerk responses that only demonstrate peoples ignorance. It's very hopeful that the education of the public will help to turn the tide...

The comments are good it makes a change to read them instead of the normal knee jerk of lock them up!
I still think it's stupid how this has been classified as a new sex crime if anything it's just a miss understanding and how on earth can anyone keep up with how fast your laws change!

Really failure to register puts people back on a form of probation and the probation officers are police officers. It's like having hundreds of probation officers so eventually you stand a chance of bumping into one of them that says.... I am going to get as many of the RSO's on FTR as possible today.

Josh says his arrest of FTR for the third time is the police mis interpreting the law regarding moving. This is entirely possible since the laws are so often written vaguely on purpose to cause confusion. FTR is really a form of mental and emotional torture because it never allows you to move foreword in life. One must always keep up on the ever changing laws.
