My son is currently at a FCI for possession of CP. He got 30 mos. He was charged in the city of St. Louis. He will also be on probation indefinitely upon release & he was registered on the SO list before he self surrendered to the FCI. The registry in Missouri is for life. I believe it is important to understand the guidelines for where he will be allowed to live upon his release. In St. Louis, you can't be within 1000 ft of a school, daycare center or a place where children congregate. This is heartbreaking & truly a sentence for the entire family. It's good to see your son will not be spending a long time there. I believe his probationary officer will help guide him to find employment, etc. I have heard St. Vincent De Paul helps. My son was originally arrested by the City of St. Louis. He was released without bail after questioning. He didn't hear anything for over 3 yrs. When he was charged by the State, then suddenly it became a Federal charge as they stated all CP possessions typically cross state & country lines on a computer. My son will be going to a half way house for transition back, but I think your son's sentence is not long enough to require that thank goodness. I continue to hear how encouraging family & friends help the most. My heart goes out of you & your son. This is devastating & the only crime I know where they are placed on lists for the public to view (at least in Missouri). God Bless!

Your husband was a very lucky man to receive such a short sentence. Many of the guys I help receive anywhere from five to 10 years in state or federal prison.

I cannot improve on what Comeback told you, but if he is going to be on probation, you need to be aware of several probation rules.

First, the PO---probation officer---will be God for a while. Write down every rule and memorize them. A PO can enter your house to look around at any time without a search warrant since your husband has no Fourth Amendment protection against search and seizure. Don’t panic. The PO will not come in and tear the place up, but he will look around.

Get rid of all the guns in the house. Possession of a firearm is a federal felony and I have seen guys get convicted even if they lived with someone else who owned the gun. Ditto for any alcoholic beverages----beer, whiskey, etc. The PO will usually look in your fridge to see if there is any beer there.

As I said, don’t panic. Most POs are not real asses, but they can be strict at first.

I doubt if your husband can have use of a computer and certainly not the internet since his charge was CP. He might be able to use a computer with some monitoring software installed, but ask the PO.

Get all the pictures of children, any children’s toys, or anything about children. The PO will not like having it in your hubby’s living area.

I glanced at the Georgia probation conditions and noticed they were very generic. His PO will add some conditions, trust me.

The court is allowing him to live with me and my children. So the children's toys are everywhere. But as for alcohol and guns, I've already got rid of that. I actually already met his probation officer and had the terms mostly explained to me.

I am happy that the court has agreed that he can live with you and your children. Many POs will not allow that. Always remember that the PO is only an officer of the court and is only there to carry out the orders of the court. The judge always has the final say, so I am glad the judge agreed about him living with the children.

You cannot avoid the children's toys, so you are fine there.

The thing is that personally, when dealing with a probation officer (regardless of the type of case it might involve) one wants to take the notion of a professional relationship. I catch THEM screwing up, I go AFTER their asses to the tune of bivens V. Six unkown agents OR 28 USC 1983 (which ever one happens to be applicable.) When you make it clear that it is your intent to find a reason to sue them and make it stick- they don't screw up nearly as much, and in my experience they handle you with kit gloves- though you might not be getting any "special" privileges out of it.
