"Republicans, who control houses of the Legislature and all elected state offices, have received about 83 percent of the contributions from private prisons since 2004."
I mentioned some time back that I had done some research and that the Republicans are usually the ones who introduce all these ridiculous crime bills. I got flak from some that I was wrong. Well, just read it.....
You can see who the recipients are here---the Republican, the conservative, right-wing party. It is very hard to argue with statistics.

Amy, I don't remember you post, much less "Coming Unglued"....Sorry, I don't come unglued., I just put out verifiable facts, that's all.
All RSO's will re offend, there have been some 'official' Govt. stats that say so...
The GOP has a history of accepting donation to push these get tough on crime laws?? I don't have time to go into it tonight, but maybe you should look into the Dems. finances...They don't turn down money from anyone either, how many Dems vote against these laws, DUH, NONE because it is political suicide and they are no diffrerent than than the Repubs..Stop drinking the "Kool Aide" and use what's between your ears...
I live in the reddest of res States which is probably the easiest State for an RSO to live..Explain that.
BTW...This is the LAST time I'm gonna explain that I am NOT a Republican but a Conservative Libertarian..
Ho Hum, tomorrow is another day...
Guten Nacht...
I'm not much for polictics and even less of a debater; however, I shake my head when folks post here saying.."it's this OR that.." when in reality, it's all of them--together.
Okay, yes I voted DEM in the last 2 elections, but I consider myself more Lib. Do I think the president has done right by us? No...not at all. Do I think it is all his fault? Yeah, right. Nothing makes my blood boil more than a bunch of fat-a$$ Senators & Reprensentatives that can't wipe there own asses without help.
The "do nothing" congress has entrenched themselves over decades. Sure we can vote them out..but for what? Like the Who's song..." Meet the new Boss.....same as the Old Boss"---yes, we will all "Get fooled Again"....Very few of the elected have made good on their elected platforms to "clean up Washington". why?
Because their really is no incentive to change....when the money rolls in from whatever source (corporations, prisons, well-heeled donors, ect.)...try as they might to resist, it just dosen't happen or so rarely it hardly noticed.
There really is not a 2-party system anymore. Each side has seen the "benefits" if you will--sure, there are still some differences, but when it comes down to greasing each others palms, well...you know what happens.
Like some people have stated.." Follow the money...."
I agree with Rew on the stats FROM HIS STATE, about most nutjob laws being introduced by REPS...
I also agree with Coastie on what happens in HIS STATE.
How can these so-called contradictions exist?? It's because....they are all wolves in sheep's clothing...masked as Party-hardliners...NOT! Whether there say they are DEM or REP...behind closed polictical doors, they are all the same...out to squeeze every dollar from every citizen in this country..and to present & pass insane laws against whatever is the "flavor of the day"--Right now its SO's & poverty-stricken people.
I thought it said " Private Prison Donate Money......"
And I immediately thought to the Red Cross or first responders in your state due to all the tornadoes and devastation that just happened.
Wow, I guess I still have hope that somewhere, someone in charge DOES DO the right thing.
Sadly, this wasn't the case. My bad for thinking positive...
