I agree... PO's suck..
We didn't tell Sifu because it's adult classes in the evening and the PO approved it, and his mental health therapist oked it. We didn't want to make it an issue when we first signed up because my son needs to be able to have some kind of life. We'll just wait and see.
Your son has a couple of things going for him as he tries to deal with all this------1) he is innocent and 2) his supposed "crime" was not a contact crime.
Do you have a copy of the forensic report where it showed there were only a couple of illicit files out of 2300 (I think that is the correct number) that were downloaded in a mass download? That he is a musician and he was only trying to download a bunch of songs and that CP was the farthest thing from his mind?
After looking at the forensic report, it will be very difficult for them to treat him badly.
Most young people know enough about P2P to know that it is quite possible to get some CP files as the other files are downloaded, especially if he downloaded a great number of files all at once.
Have him get a copy of that report and show these guys.
In his heart, knowing he is innocent should empower him greatly. I know it did me. I KNEW what happened and I knew I was not guilty.
Also his "crime" was not that he was distributing CP, or making it, or even looking at it. His crime was unknowingly having it on his drive.
Most people do not judge harshly if they can identify with the crime. For example, nobody can identify with raping a child as that is so repulsive. But people---especially young people who are computer literate--- can identify with your son's situation as they can see where it could easily happen to them----or to anyone for that matter.
Allow him to use his innocence to walk with his head up and shoulders squared. There is absolutely no real reason for him to feel as if he has to hide. I would probably keep a rather low profile, but he cannot allow this to ruin his life. He is so young and he has his entire life ahead of him.
I would show them the report and then if it was a big problem "to hell with them."

He might also add that he was not even required to take SO treatment like 99% of other offenders. That should tell them----other people he comes in contact with----something.
If they do not want to believe a forensic report or take any of the other factors in consideration, I would think they were very dense.
Have your son use his innocence and all these things to his advantage. He has SO MANY things in his favor. Use them.

I have everything including the 'confession' and the forensics. And our forensics guy says if we ever need him for anything he's there for us. He says my son was royally screwed.
The school we both belong to is the main school for Kung Fu International organization that has IP Man as one of it's founders. My son and I are both disciples. This would not be a good thing if it was spread around, not good for the school. But I know Sifu would keep it quiet. He's a good guy, so smart and caring. I would just worry if the PO said anything to anyone else there, might not be a good thing at all. I think most people would support him but there's always those few.
I've told others what my son has to deal with, just a couple personal friends.. only to find out they know someone who has been labeled an SO for bullshit reasons. But my son hasn't told anyone. He's too afraid of that.
It might be good to get this out so he doesn't stress over it. At this point he's limited in what he can do or go. Our school does 'family' kind of events, like paintball weekends in the Poconos, July 4th at Sifu's house in NJ, which is only 20 minutes aways.. and Sifu often has people over his home for other reasons but my son is not allowed to go, nor can he tell anyone why.
Thanks Wisconsin/Rew . I really needed this feedback. We'll see what happens.
