This country embarrasses me. It is almost like we are reverting back to the Dark Ages. We have polygraphs, the death penalty, and now this. At this rate, we will soon be sticking pins in voodoo dolls.

I talked to several inmates who had undergone this procedure at the state's sex offender treatment facility in Oklahoma. Just the thought of the procedure is disgusting.

In this country, we feel as if we must humiliate someone to make progress in their treatment. The GPS monitors, the polygraphs, and the plethysmograph are all a form of intimidation and humiliation which serves no real purpose in the rehabilitation process.

This procedure cannot be accurate as it is well known that erections are achieved through emotional stimuli, which in turn creates the physical environment needed for the erection----the filling of the veins with blood which produce an erection.

What if the guy is impotent? In fact, they use a test similar to diagnose impotence in the field of medicine.

What if the inmate has a condition in which the veins cannot fill properly? Does that make him less likely to reoffend?

I came from a scientific background. This junk science and voodoo nonsense they use in the sex offender area just baffles me. There just has to be a better way.

They have no intention of releasing them if they can find any possible loop hole. Sounds like this is just another trap. Sorry if I sound jaded but after 11 years of this crap with my son it is hard not to be.

My husband is in Oklahoma. Who has to do this testing? Is this something he needs to get prepared for? He discharges in March with no paper time. This would be a very embarrassing thing for him to undergo.

Yeah you don't have to be sorry Donna, it's trur, they will do whatever they think will "protect" the public. Do they use evidence based practices? No. They go off of the idea if if only saves one child it is worth it. The constitution be damned.

Penile Plethysmograph? What state still does this? In Vermont they replaced it with a computer program that shows you a bunch of pictures. The program measures the amount of time you look at each picture. Based on that it determines your interests.

I know NJ does it. Hoping Pa doesn't have this ridiculous "exam"!

i asked what the heck will they do with women who are on probation for a sex offense. i guess this kinda answers that question in a way.

We had a great lawyer that said she would take it to court so he wouldn't have to do the penile plethsomograph. Luckily his SO treatment said it was optional, so he declined.

I've heard of it when I was in forced therapy here in PA but it was never used, but they did polygraph and a lot of the guys seemed to disappear from the class after they took it, usually due to a probation violation that turned up due to the poly. I was fortunate and got a judge to dismiss me from forced therapy and never had to take a polygraph. But just the anxiety of the possibility of a plethsomograph was horrifying. The stresses that so called therapy class caused, in my opinion it was mental abuse!
