I was at another prison at the time and was a tutor, but there were several guys who came into the education department who had been to this treatment program. They explained it and it was about par with most of the other programs in prison. Poor management, instructors not qualified, and so on. None of the inmates felt they benefited at all from the program. Most of the inmates noted that it was more a shaming mechanism than anything.
If your guy needs treatment---and if he is truly guilty, he probably does need treatment--- he can receive treatment a thousand times better when he is released than he ever could in prison. You can tell that I am not a big proponent of prison programs, but there are probably a few exceptions. The GED and literacy program are really top notch, mostly because they have qualified tutors and the teachers are real teachers with a teaching degree who now work for the DOC. The vo-tech programs are good also because they have instructors from the outside come in and teach the guys welding, masonry, and other trades which will be beneficial. The other program was a year long drug rehab program they had in our state. It was very intensive. The rest of the programs are just jokes.
I cannot speak for all states, but I just imagine any sex offender program they offer in prison is inadequate. These programs are mostly a cover your ass type move and it gives the DOC the ability to say they at least did something to address the inmate's needs while he was incarcerated.
I am sure there may be some prison programs dealing with sexual dysfunction in a few states that are worthwhile, but they are in the minority.
So, yeah if you feel he needs treatment get him to a qualified clinic when he is released. He will not likely receive any adequate treatment while in prison.
And if he can plea to a crime that is NOT a sex offense----and if it will keep him off the registry----RUN, don't walk, as fast as you can to sign the plea. The sex offender registry just opens an entire can of worms for any person trying to get a new start.
Hope this helps and good luck,

Here is the deal. Him being on the registry really helps nobody. All it will probably do is make his---and your---life more complicated.
If he can plea out to a crime that is not a registrable offense, then you can always see that he gets help at that time.
I do not have all the answers about how to get that help from a therapist or someone to treat his problem. Someone on here that has had more experience in that area can maybe help with that answer. Possibly you could talk to an attorney and with the client/lawyer confidentiality privilege he can help.
I do know that it is a fine line to walk when a person needs help with impure sexual thoughts.
