the first part of the video really pissed me off, toward the end she somewhat did redeem herself. the very best that she said was that people, all people need to get past the need, desire or want to consider sex offenders as monsters. and the very last thing she said that we can do better, is so true and telling.
someone commented that she painted offenders with a broad brush and lumped them all into one category. that is very true. sometimes in a way i think we all do to a certain extent even if only a very small extent. but people who have never had to deal with someone they know or care about being convicted and labeled a sex offender have really no idea what the full scope is like. and some like me who only in the past 2yrs who has had to come to gripes with this??? there is so very much to learn i don't know if i really ever will. i can only hope and pray that there wont be a bunch more and more added to what there already is out there.
i have enjoyed reading the opinions of others about this video.
my opinion? she's kinda right on much of it. but she also has much to learn. she needs to come to an understanding that not all of the people who are labeled as "sex offenders" should be classified as such. i think that her statement that those who deny their guilt are doing so because they are trying to hide their guilt from themselves. i think that quite a number of them deny it because what they did shouldn't be listed as a sex offense or a sex crime. and they should have never been put on the registry for it.
but at least what she is doing and has said, it's a start and she is beginning the process.
i shared the video to my facebook page. didn't have even one nay-sayer!
I knew this video wouldn't strike a chord with everyone here because a lot of people are here for CP. The punishment for CP is beyond ridiculous, the punishment does not fit the crime. I believe that the registry is punishment, and in a lot of cases ex post facto punishment. I believe that research shows we have the lowest recidivism rates of any besides murder. I believe society has lost its mind and are on a witch hunt. I believe we are not the monsters society thinks we are. Nevertheless, I agree with the psychologist in the video. When you compare yourself to what society thinks we are we look good. My psychologist encouraged me to compare myself to a non-offending person, and when I do that I know I had and still have work to do.
