A new law took thousands off the sex offender registry.
Exposing yourself near a playground, urinating in public or peeping in a bathroom stall are just some of the actions that have landed thousands of people on the sex offender registry.
Now many of those names are disappearing from the list.
“If you were to slap a woman on the behind, that would be sexual battery and you would have to register for 15 years and that has nothing to do with children on the playground,” said attorney David Slane. “People who urinated in public or fall under what we call the Romeo and Juliet situation, where the young man may have been just a little bit older than the girl or vice versa. They’re the ones typically being removed.”
Slane said he’s taken on over 400 sex offender cases, more than anyone else in the state.
In many situations the offenders were on the list way past their punishment because the laws kept changing.
“They’ve had a number of changes or revisions of sex offender registration act over the last ten or 15 years and the court said those later laws could not apply retroactively,” said Jerry Massey spokesperson for the Department of Corrections (DOC).
Out of the 2,400 now off the list, Slane said most are level one or level two offenders which does not include those who committed violent and heinous sex crimes.
He also said under the new law a judge is able to decide a punishment on a case by case basis and not paint all offenders with a wide brush.
Slane said, “The more serious cases are the one we should spend our resources on, not someone who urinated in public.”
DOC officials say they still have another 2,700 cases to review to see if there are more offenders who are eligible to come off the list based on the new law.

Like I said, I had some ideas and threw them out there and all of a sudden I was told that I don't know anything and then in less than 2 minutes being in the group I was kicked out and banned. . and then, of course, I was talked about.
I run my own business, raised my kids by myself and always had to be a take charge person.. and it's gotten me into trouble. I got into trouble with FAC. . Like I said, I think they're doing a great job. But I had suggestions and I was told to 'be quiet' watch, learn and then some day I would be allowed to participate'. which was tough for me. So I bailed out of all the groups and just do things on my own.
So. it won't work out. I'd be happy just to be part of a group and do what someone asks me, but I don't like being misunderstood and people being pissed at me for the wrong reason.
I know sometimes people here get tired of me, and I shut down for a bit. I can appreciate that.
However, there are a few I personally see as not really doing anything, very little communicating, no help to members or prospective members. Now, that certainly doesn't mean all, or even a large number. We have our own little bit of attrition as well, I guess it goes with the territory, people get mad, frustrated, health problems, lack of money, no help, family needs. I've seen it all.
Nak, you know RSOL has a number of states with two or more reform groups, other RSOL groups or 'independents', like VA, NM, CO. Is that a possibility, to start your own group? I can ask about starting a group through RSOL for you, if you like. PM me if you'd like. Huh, I sort of like this the more I think about it. You and coolrich work well together on here, both of you are knowledgeable on the issues and reform.
Anybody else? Guys, we need help, as a movement. Everybody, all the organization need volunteers, help with resources and finances, from contributing $2 dollars if you have it, to setting up other sub groups. We don't need to re-invent the wheel, we just need to support (or create our own) groups to help the ones already established out there, and some of those are not really active right now, I'm thinking of SOSEN and USA FAIR. Maybe they need a jump start and an infusion of money and help, vision. But I do know some are active.

When this first happened to us I thought it was a fluke. That this would surely not be happening to others and that we were pretty much on our own, a lot of questions and no support. It's a really shitty feeling.
If we just had a place to contact and get information. . again, that's what the RSOL is about. I know the head of the one here in PA would have a fit and say that I just wanted to be in charge.. but I'd be into having a website where people could email someone, get information, and not be left out without that support that is so needed.
I could contact Vicky about it. . not sure how she'd feel about it tho.
I don't think PA RSOL has a rep anymore. Frank is gone and the guy out in Erie is MIA.
As for WAR, I know nothing about its organization.
I emailed her on the FB page. I saw there was not activity there since 2012. . and I asked her about it just to see if I'd get a response. I didn't tell her my name but she replied. Telling me that if this is '***' then don't bother because she's burned her bridges here'. She also said that she's burnt out from working 60 -70 hour weeks because her husband can't find a job.
At this point maybe I shouldn't care if I step on toes. I'll email Vicky today and see what she says.
It's like what they did to my son. He accidentally downloaded some cp but no one wants to know the truth and because he's an SO he's a bad guy. I thought it strange that people who are getting this from our society to do the same thing to another person who's on their side.
Give it another shot. PA RSOL has fallen apart. I will support you any way I can in my exhausted manner. Been doing this WAAAAY too long.
