There's someone down hear who watches theses things and thinks that Australia should be doing the same as what Florida is doing.
I know RSO's and those associated with them typically think or at least appear to think that civil commitment is "not my problem" (and I mean no offense to anyone here) on the premise that "I don't have mental illness" but I am telling you, mental illness is not the only thing that can get a person committed.
Pretty soon civil commitment is going to be every SO's nightmare on Elm street.
This is why we should help any cause being taken up regardless of state boarders, because it may wind up in our own state.
They have all these things for Sex offenders why don't they have them for drunk drivers, murders that get out, people who commit theft, etc. Drunk drivers can have numerous times that they are cited, jailed, etc and they are not told they can not go to a bar or drink or they will go back to prison.
I personally think things need to change, but how?? Who can we talk to?
It's only when our voices become so loud that govt will finally hear us. We have the RSOL's and ACLU helping us to fight these laws, but we also need to do our part in helping to make our voices heard. Everyone has a different way in which they can help, some can actually lobby, others can help financially, others can help by sending letters or speaking to their representatives, others gomout and try to talk to friends, family, neighbors and anyone willing to listen about the impact of these laws.
It's about where we are at in the journey, and what we can do to help. Everything we do to bring awareness helps our cause to get these laws changed.
