North Carolina Registrants Attending Church, part

I guess I spoke too soon regarding the situation with sex offenders being allowed to attend church in North Carolina.

One sheriff has taken it upon himself to ban offenders from attending church in his county. I don't know how he plans to get around the court decision I mentioned, but I will try to read up on it tomorrow.

Keep in mind that this only pertains to Graham County.

You will notice in his letter that if a registrant wants to worship on Sunday morning, he can come to the county jail to worship. Mighty big of this fine sheriff.

Update: Sheriff Millsaps seems to have had a partial change of heart since initially issuing his ruling. He said (in the article below) that although he doesn't believe SOs should be anywhere near children, he will not prevent the SOs in his county from attending church this weekend. The article also says that the newspaper has sent a copy of the sheriff's letter (shown in the article) to the county attorney, the DOJ, and the ACLU for review and comment.

Seems sad to me that they would even try this.

Back when I was on probation the POs would not allowed us to go to church, they finally changed it after about 5 years but by then it really did not matter, the churches would just impose so many restrictions on you that all it did was shame your family even more. I cannot think of a single case where a sex-offender did a crime in a church.

Since when has the sheriff become a legislator? He has no legal authority to ban anyone from anywhere with out a judges order.
If you are on paper, your PO can ban you from any place on this earth if he chooses, but the sheriff can not.. My guess is that Millsaps is running for re election next year?
