Yes, fellow posters, you read the subject line correctly. No, I am not drunk here on Super Bowl Sunday.
They actually passed a bill PROHIBITING restrictions where sex offenders can live. In other words, this bill makes it illegal to restrict where registered citizens can live.

This is the first time I have ever heard of such a thing.
We are making progress on a state by state level. We have had some major court decisions in our favor in some states and in some states sex offender laws have been repealed..
In Oklahoma and Ohio, courts ruled that portions of SORNA/AWA are punitive and cannot be applied retroactively.
No, we will not get the registry knocked down all at once, so we need to take "baby steps" and do it piece by piece much like you would knock a wall down---brick by brick.
When my son was in grade school, one day he came home from school looking very troubled and disgusted. I asked him what was wrong. He said "That old teacher gave us 100 math problems to do and that is too many. I will never get them all done."
I said, "Chris, let's start on them and just do one at a time and see how it comes out." After a couple of hours he had all the problems solved and his task was complete." I said, "Chris, did you do all those problems?" He said, "Yes, Dad, I did and I like the way you showed me."
We have a lot of "math problems" to contend with. But we will knock them down one by one and someday we will have accomplished our goal.
Everyone needs to become very involved in your state chapter. It is imperative that we unite as a group to fight these laws. Two states, California and Texas, have a very strong chapters.
Mary Sue in Texas and Janice in California are doing remarkable work. But they cannot take the fight to our opposition all alone. They need each and every one of us to stand with them.
So I beseech everybody here to support their state chapter. You might think that you cannot make a difference, but you can. To a certain degree, our destiny will be determined by how much we want to fight.
Keep the faith, my friends. Change for the better WILL come. Maybe not tomorrow, maybe not next week or next month, but there IS a light at the end of this proverbial tunnel.

Now if only they'd stop or make reasonable the restrictions on being on school or park property.
In IL it's 'being present on land' in WI (local cities not state wide) the loitering is usually defined as being somewhere without official business. I can live with WI. But don't ban me from being present on specific property.
The problem is to fight the most effective way first you must be arrested for said offense then you must have money to chase it up through the courts.
Lobbying in IL hasn't gotten us far.
It wasn't even a close vote!
