My Email To Candidates For Public Office In Missou
LegalGuardian
This is the e-mail I sent to one person running for Missouri Governor, and copied three running for Missouri State Representative:
_______________________
GOP Candidate for Governor Mrs. Catherine Hanaway and your staff members,
I am writing this e-mail about your upcoming television advertisement to “End Lawlessness” in Missouri. I hope you and your staff will read this e-mail in its entirety, and consider what I write rather than giving it only a passing thought because I believe the subject you bring forward is an important one that needs to be addressed in ways that are customarily ignored for the sake of politics and this includes, but is certainly not limited to, sex offender crimes, victims, registration, and residency laws.
I believe every person wants to be safe and to live in safe communities. I also believe that given the chance people would work with those in law enforcement far more than occurs, if they had a reason to believe an equal partnership would exist. However, I also believe it is idealistic to believe that we will ever end lawlessness – not for a lack of wanting to do so, but because so often crime is the product of social issues. So, when people hear a politician or a person running for an office talking about “ending lawlessness,” one of the things thought about is that this means we will advance even further into being police state, and politicians will enact laws to make practically everything a criminal act to repress the people.
If there is anything abundantly clear about our federal Constitution and even our own, it is that we are not supposed to be, nor are we allowed to be a dictatorship, but more and more this is precisely what we are becoming, and people tend to fight back in the only means they know how – by violent and non-violent crimes. Unfortunately, our system is one of blaming the people rather than blaming those in government because those in government do not believe they bare any responsibility, they are allowed to live above the law, and enjoy all the riches of immunity and willful blindness that they give themselves and each other to prevent being held accountable to the people. Thus, I believe people are far less interested in hearing a politician talk about how they are going to rein in the people, because what they want to know is how lawless government officials are going to be reined in, instead.
Missouri is widely known for having an exceptional amount of corrupt politicians and bureaucrats. Missouri is widely known for having an exceptional number of racist politicians, law enforcement personnel, and bureaucrats. Missouri is widely known for having an exceptional number of sexually deviant politicians and law enforcement officials. Missouri is also widely known for wanting to make it easier to kill people legally. Missouri is widely known for being homophobic and anti-transgender. Missouri is widely known for being intolerant of homeless people, people with mental illness, and low-income people. And Missouri is widely known for harming and even endangering children. This state is known for these things not because of the conduct of the people, to the contrary. Rather, Missouri has this reputation because of the attitudes and conduct of politicians, law enforcement, and bureaucrats.
When it comes to "protecting children," I do not believe anyone with an ounce of intelligence believes we need do anything less than protect children, though they are most certainly not the "most vulnerable" citizens we have in Missouri. Unfortunately, while politicians want to waive the flag of "protecting children," and too many do so to create public hysteria and play on the fears of people in order to get elected into office, they also do not want to do what is needed to protect children like enacting sensible gun laws, prosecuting government officials who endanger children, and stop enacting laws that favor one child while sacrificing another child, and to this, yes, I refer to our sex offender registration and residency laws. Yes, it is certainly a very unpopular subject matter, and politicians see it as a political landmine to walk though, but, it is certainly a subject matter that politicians need to start dealing with instead of turning blind eyes.
Empirical evidence even from the U.S. Department of Justice shows that sex offender registration and residency laws are not working, they do not protect the children, they are creating even greater harms for society rather than solving issues, and they are self-defeating to those labeled a sex offender, which in turn, has devastating impacts on children and general society. In other words, what started out as a perceived good idea, has categorically been proved to be a catastrophic disaster that is costing taxpayers enormous undue amounts of money to pay for their own demise and to endanger the safety of children. So, if politicians want to waive the flag of "protecting children" as a platform to further their chances of being elected, the reality is, these laws do not and never will protect children and, frankly, there is absolutely no law that can be passed that is ever going to stop sex crimes because a person must choose instead not to engage in such behaviors.
Oh, and just in case you or anyone else wants to think or accuse me of being pro sex offender - I am a survivor of 12 years of childhood rape and torture that often occurred by those waiving the flag of "protecting children" to get their position of authority.
Respectfully,

Respectfully,
It certainly isn't an original argument but have you considered going into more detail regarding the "collateral consequences" registries have on the very same children these politicians have sworn to protect? You mention it briefly but perhaps you could talk about it in a little more detail?
Otherwise, A+ Excellent job. I also hope it gets published somewhere.
This is a wonderfully written, well articulated letter. I have just one suggestion:
I would start the letter with the sentence "I am a survivor of 12 years of childhood rape and torture that often occurred by those waiving the flag of "protecting children" to get their position of authority.
They would know right off the bat that you are speaking as a survivor of the very actions the politicians are trying to "prevent". It could catch their attention and not throw your email into the recycle bin.
I would also send this as a guest editorial to your local newspaper-they just might publish it given that it's so well written.

In the Kansas City Star newspaper article last year, the reporter writes about comments Hanaway made to insult heterosexual men and women -- argumentatively liberals -- for pedophilia, child pornography, and the existence of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people.
Besides being utterly stupid about why such exists, Hanaway apparently believed it acceptable to insult those whom she would claim are "liberals" in very derogatory ways. But that is okay right. After all, she is a politicians running for Missouri governor, so she has a right to insult the people.
