Missouri has long since been known to be a racist state, a state that oppresses the poor, and a state that favors the privileged. However there is an interesting twist in the motive and intent to the law that takes effect on January 1, 2016.
In April 2015, our state legislators overrode our Governor's veto of Senate Bill 24. It is the systemic welfare reform Bill, that strips thousands upon thousands upon thousands of Missouri citizens of TANF payments and food stamps, and eliminates the right of receiving waivers allowed for by federal law.
Portions of the money saved by depriving the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) benefits is going to be used to fund alternatives to abortion -- not sure how legal that is going to be. Moreover, another motive to depriving TANF and food stamp benefits is to force women (YES YOU HEARD THAT RIGHT) to FORCE WOMEN TO GET MARRIED in order to have a home, food to eat, and the ability to take care of their children.
Insofar as food stamps, the law is RSMo 208.244.1, which takes affect on January 1, 2016, and while confusing because of a specific word used in the state law, it will strip thousands upon thousands of citizens of their food stamps because our legislators decided that Missouri citizens are not entitled to the exceptions that are allowed under federal law.
So many people face enormous barriers to getting jobs and for many more, getting a job is impossible due to their disabilities, criminal conviction, age, race, gender, and so on. At the top of the list of ex-felons is, of course, sex offenders. This new law will adversely affect them and those who have children.
It is estimated that (2015) Senate Bill 24 (enacted by overriding our Governor's veto) will seriously hurt 6,500 children immediately in our state. Naturally, the focus gravitates to children, rather than focusing on the larger picture that it is going to have serious adverse impacts on adults, as well

As for welfare, food stamps etc.. you probably know which way I go on that too but I've been working 12hr days for the last 20 and I'm too tired to get into it.
I find it amazing how a person can purport to be Christian on one hand, but on the other hand pass laws that attack the poor class. Rather unchristian if you ask me.
My beliefs on abortion really are not relevant. What is relevant is the hypocrisy here. If it is wrong to use tax dollars to pay for abortion then it is equally wrong to use tax dollars to pay for anti-abortion programs. One is no different and equally as bad as the other. Likewise, it is wrong to use food and monetary assistance hostage to force people into marriage.
Not one politician I contacted had anything to say about this. As far as they demonstrate, they do not have the belief that they need to answer to the people for what they are doing. They can because they say they can and too freaking bad if anyone does not like what they are doing. Heck, even Bernie Sanders and Claire McCaskill have refused to answer why federal funds are being permitted to be used this way.
