It amazes me that those who are advocates for civil commitment for sex offenders will have to pulled away from their beliefs kicking and screaming.

For some reason they will just not concede that holding someone past their sentence date and placing them in another prison-like environment with little due process or hope of ever getting released is unfair.

What the hell is wrong with these people?

I hope the gentlemen who have been unconstitutionally civilly committed sue the state of Minnesota and collect millions. Hitting these people----the DAs, the politicians, and the other officials responsible for these injustices----in the pocketbook is the only message they will ever understand.

The amount of pure ignorance and lack of fairness in this supposed democracy is simply amazing.

Good news, may the trend continue!

This is great news. I heard it on the radio (NPR) while driving home yesterday afternoon. The state of Minnesota is not taking this decision well and is looking for legal ways to minimize the effects of the ruling.

Rew, I agree with you 100%. I do not understand people like that either. These are the same people that do not understand or care why laws must pass constitutional muster in order to be legal, or who support extra-judicial punishment. Yes, hitting states in the financial pocket is the only way to get their attention.

It is about time. May it continue into every state where civil commitment is happening.

And this civil commitment crap getting tough (at least in FL) started because a couple of uninformed reporters wrote a sensationalized news story on the front of the Sentinel newspaper - it was full of false statistics but the moral of the story was that we are letting dangerous RSOs out to roam among us and so FL tightened the civil commitment laws.

The obvious question to ask is how many total rapes, were in that same time period. The question should be how do we best stop more rape from occurring. The fact that the overwhelming majority of new rapes in floriduh were not from people on the registry it seems the scorched earth policy makes little sense.
