There has been a lot of talk about the difference between a medium security prison and a minimum security prison. Many mothers, girlfriends, and wives are concerned about their love ones safety---and they should be. Prison is a tough place.
I was at both a medium and a minimum---and the difference between the two are like night and day.
I suppose some medium security prisons across the country are not TOO bad, but I have to tell you, that the ones I were at or the ones I ever heard other inmates talk about were potentially violent and not a good place for sex offenders or guys who were unable to win the respect of the other inmates.
I fully believe some of the posters are telling the truth when they say that their son is at a medium with a sex charge and doing well. Apparently, some mediums are not that bad. And that, frankly, brings a sigh of relief.
But in Oklahoma, and I imagine in the Bible Belt states, the mediums are dangerous for inmates with sex charges.

"Life-sentenced prisoner John Pierce was fatally stabbed by four fellow prisoners at the Dick Conner Correctional Center on August 14. State official Jim Rabon stated there had been five prisoner homicides between July 1, 2006 and May 1, 2007 in the Oklahoma prison system. In addition, there were 1,142 prisoner-on-prisoner assaults and 189 assaults on staff."
There were almost 1200 assaults in the Oklahoma prison system between inmates and almost 200 assaults on staff in a 10 MONTH PERIOD in Oklahoma. Now do you see what I have been talking about?
These figures were not compiled by me and the facts do not lie.
Most all of them were at medium security facilities and many were at where I was at in the medium in Oklahoma.
This is what we had to deal with on a day-to-day basis.
This is just how the prison system is in Oklahoma. I am so grateful that some of your loved ones are at a relatively safe place, because any of the mediums in Oklahoma was not very safe.
This is why I cringe when I learn that a sex offender is going to a medium security prison. I really CARE about your son, husbands, and boyfriends, just like they were my sons or fathers. I just do not want anyone seriously hurt.
I KNOW what can happen in there and that is why I try to advise or explain in detail the safest method of surviving a medium security prison.

Low security is good the guys are close to going home so they don't want to stuff up and get sent back to the medium prisons or worse the maximum prison.
