I'd be interested to know the age of the oldest individual on record who was convicted of a first-time sex offense. Perhaps, it could be suggested that registration would no longer be required after a certain age or if the individual becomes disabled. I doubt we could get society to rescind all registries, but perhaps it would make sense to put some realistic limits on it.

In reading the article, I was left with more of a sympathetic feeling for the victims and their parents than for those convicted of the offenses. Sorry to go against the grain here, but my sons were victims as chilren, too, so I haved that side of this nightmare, too.

The other side of the nightmare is that those same sons, if they ever get out of prison, will have to register for life.

One of these cases is the one I'd read about.

I can sorta understand where you're coming from honest, if I didn't know that registration really is a placebo, and doesn't actually keep kids safe.

In my hubby's case, he was sentenced to 10 years registry and went through the SOAB and was determined to be low-risk, only to have it changed to life under the AWA. So, we'll be looking to fight it.

What I find interesting is that apparently these guys appealed their registration right off the bat. I wonder if we could do something similar (it's been a few years) but in a 'local court" or whatever, and see what the judge says. Since, she's still on the bench and is the one who accepted his plea to begin with

Lifetime registration to me is cruel and punitive punishment .there should be due process. To all registrants .to say youll never have chance to get off registry is cruel in my opinion .to those who learned and doing right .our loved ones should have freedom one day .not when they die .

All very goo points. If the registry stays, it should not exceed the maximum prison sentence someone would have received. Who in their right mind can say that the registry is not punitive? It is in every way punitive. If someone fails to register, they can be sent back to prison…how is that not punitive? There should be a fine maybe, like not renewing your car registration, but other than that, nobody should go back to jail or prison.
