Droidmcse is from Georgia. He is not only very intelligent, but helpful and a nice guy.

He would know better than anyone on the board. I cannot think of anyone else from Georgia who is a current registrant there. I do know a couple of mothers from Georgia, but their son is still in prison.

I don't find that Georgia is that bad. It depends on when he committed the crime because there are different rules on residency restrictions, employment based on that. There are situations where you can petition to be removed from the registry once you complete all your court ordered things. I believe it also depends on what county you live it and the sheriffs department that handles the registration.

It will be interesting to hear Droidmcs's opinion as well.

I'm terribly conflicted about GA honestly. I am in one of more a$$holic counties in the state. Yet, I am not bothered. The 7a-7p curfew drives me nuts. The counties around me, Houston (mine), Crawford, Bibb and Peach, are the only counties that I'm aware of that have curfews.

I have several contacts all over the state and NONE have had curfews even on day one AP (after prison). All of my experience is w/ people on probation, not parole.
I do know one on parole in Gwinette (suburb of Atl) and he's got GPS stuff on his phone. I also know another guy on parole and they harass the crap out of him. He's in Floyd county, near Rome GA.

Everything will depend on the crime, what county you go to, and who your probation officer is. You could move to a very rural area and it's 1 PO for 3 counties. Or middle ground like mine where it's a couple POs for 1 county. I would imagine in Atlanta, it's a dozen POs for the county.

Your state laws will follow you here, and then some combination of the your probation rules along w/ the local probation rules.

I'd be very interested to know how your move goes. I am interested in moving myself, but am very very much stuck where I am for the time being.

We are getting an RSOL affiliate started here. I'd love to go after the residency/work restrictions.

I'm debating fighting it, as there is a law on the GA books about unsupervised probation: ocga 17-10-1. I won't hijack this thread for that. After 2 years, ALL probationers in good standing, paid fines/fees, etc SHALL be unsupervised.

but that's for after (2 years) probation...not for parolees after serving their prison sentence? What about after a man's parole time is served, he's " off paper" and is simply on the Registry?

Yes that's correct. Parole in GA is significantly more challenging. Severe restrictions w/ curfew and monitoring etc. GA doesn't really do much in the realm of classifying crimes either. Perhaps if you are one of the nasty nasties, otherwise everyone is treated equally bad.

There is nothing in the state laws related to curfews and sex offender registration. You might want to Google the information below to see how that would affect a specific person. Note: The laws cross between conviction and when the crime was committed so you have to be careful when you are reading it.
