The only problem I DO have with religion is when religious people get too EXTREME and attempt to get legislation passed to impose their morality or beliefs on others.

How would christians feel if atheists/agnostics (just like some christians posting here), filled every single post with heavy references to atheism? Guessing, I'll bet it'd get awfully annoying, awful fast.
I'm not against those who believe but I would like to see some consideration. It goes both ways, ya know?
I don't think I've ever gone into "heavy" Christian references on here , unless the original post has to do with the church or something similar. I think the heaviest I've gone is when I first started posting to explain my son's story in a nutshell. While I agree with you , rew , about extreme zealotry , I won't sit here passively and allow anyone using this forum to call me or others of my faith all kinds of vile crap. And when it spins into attack mode ... well , backing down is not an option.
Politics and religion are always a powder keg.
You will never see a post from me in which I call anyone names, nor will you see one where I criticize or make fun of anyone's religion. I post a lot about politics, but mostly I stay away from commenting on religion because, frankly, one's faith is very personal and I am the last person on earth to have all the answers when it comes to God.
Nothing I say is ever meant to be taken personally by anone.
I debate things, but I don't insult people. That is just not me.
If I ever do say something inapproprate to ANYONE about ANYTHING or I hurt anyone's feelings, especially when it comes to their beliefs, I would hope that they would send me a private message; everyone on this board is hurting enough without me sticking my foot in my mouth and causing more emotional pain.
I really care about the members here. I consider it a great disrespect to call names or belittle them for what they belief; I debate passionately, but I do not disprespect people.

To me, that IS tolerance...being able accept not everyone feels the same way but getting along because of other commonalities. I would never ask or expect them to hold their tongue on thier faith.
My best friend is Wiccan btw.
To All -
We do not need to be hurting each other. I realize I'm relatively new here. But being the old war horse that I am , I can't put my heart on standby. Everyone here has something that helps them get through. Whether it's prayer or meditation or just a good friend ( or Peschi ?).
hurtings way is to talk about her faith. If you don't want to read it - don't , but maybe it's the one thing someone else needs to read to get through the day. I skip over stuff all the time. Everyone here has personal interests - and that is a good thing. All are very different. Yours may not be mine and vise versa. But we all have one thing in common , and that is only the reason I am even writing this tonight. In my personal life I am a woman of few words. This is the ONLY place I go on the internet to discuss anything ( and boy , you sure get discussion here ). But the great thing I found here is , you ALL make me think. I get out of the world the government has tried to trap us in. Do I agree with everything here ? Nope. Not gonna happen. Do I love y'all ? You betcha.
Had a very long day. Driving for a living takes the wind out of your sails. Gonna have a couple beers and crib. Nite.
As fair as I go iam not really the religious type but hey if thats what you believe in go for it and enjoy. I try not to judge others and I think its a personal choice.
For what it's worth: A friend of mine who teaches intercultural studies for colleges and corporations prefers to use the word acceptance rather than tolerance because it's a more positive concept. The words are similar, but there's a fine-line difference for anyone who's an etymologist.
