Thanks for all the great info here. Is there another area/state that has similiar laws to Oregon? Tiered system for the registry, potential to get off the registry in 10-15years? No restrictions of where you can go or live once off probation? I am open to moving anywhere out of FL right now. I just need some help finding a place. I thought Portland would be good but there might be other locations I am overlooking. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Let me throw some states out here. I am not sure on some of them and hopefully one of the members who live in that state can add to my input---

Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, or Maryland is too bad; they will certainly be much better than a Bible Belt state. I think Faeryedark is from PA, along with Nak.

Utah, New Mexico, or Wyoming might not be too bad. Coastie and Nathan can clue you in on Utah.

Stay away from Arkansas, Louisiana, or Missouri. These states are terrible, but I have probably mentioned this before.

JanetMackie can tell you about Nevada, but I don't think it is very good.

I am not sure about Idaho or Washington.

I really am no expert. It's my understanding that whatever state you parole to that receiving state will still supervise according to the requirements / parole conditions imposed by the sending state/ jurisdiction (original state, or Fed court jurisdiction in which you were convicted) When/ if the person is revoked (and sent back to prison in the sending state) based upon whether or not they comply with conditions set by the parole board in the sending jurisdiction. Clear as mud?

jackie, from what I understand you are partly correct. You have to abide by the judges conditions which often include the district he was sentenced in rules. However, he also has to abide by the registry of the state he resides in and after probation he only has to live under the states he resides in requirements. That's for federal inmates, i have no idea how that works for state inmates.

Rew: Thank you! Some of this I have already looked at but some of it is new to me. I just want to make sure I don't overlook anything. From my research, VT and OR have the more lenient and places like CO, Mass and ND seem ok. I need to look at some of the others you posted about.

The cost of living will be much higher in the New England states, so remember that.

You can use Google search to find out if a state has residency restrictions for registrants.

I was going to move to Vermont - until I discovered that SORNA would kick in and make my situation much, much worse. Thank you, REW, for giving me the heads up about that!

PA isn't too bad, but it is an AWA state. So, if the offense was against a minor 13 or younger, it's lifetime registry. However, there's no restrictions, and they don't put fliers up for people who aren't designated SVP. You can live and go as you please.

I printed the info off, thank you . Ill try to decipher what state is best for reducing ,or getting removed. Missouri has been predators toward SO's This state is one of the worst. They stalk, and bully ever chance they have here. St.Charles Mo. Stay clear of. Q

MD is like PA, AWA but no restrictions. Three tiers, 15yr, 25yr and life depending on the crime and everyone's on the registry. Washington DC is also very good; their registry doesn't even list the whole address, just the block you live on. But it can be expensive living there. DE might be good if you're a tier 1 there because I don't think they're listed on the public registry. I don't know what it's like there for those that are on the public registry.

RI is tiered and if your tier 1 there are barely any restrictions with eligibility to get off fast as well. Ct is moving to a tiered system hopefully in the next few years.

In Virginia, it depends on the Probation District. Each has a different take on the rules. Some are much easier to deal with than others.
