The woman has a right not to testify against her own husband. And if her state is like CA, as the victim, she has a right not to testify against her abuser.

The courts way too often try to force the victim to testify, even threaten them to arrest them if they don't testify.
The courts would have been better off, giving him a plea deal, then they wouldn't have needed her testimony.

Independent, I too see the ACLU is a great asset to SO's and their families. I was raised extreme conservative, thought to hate them, but since I have been thrown into this mess, I see things from a different perspective. I now see the shades of grey, instead of just black and white. I may not agree with everything the ACLU takes on, but there are a lot they work on that I do agree with.

My view: I can completely disagree with over half their stances, but as long as they support RSOs I'm on board with them.

Coastie - it is not about your views or even always what you say - it is the way you say it. I know you will not heed this or even care - but you attack - you do not discuss. I disagree with several people on the forum often - but I do not cuss them , or shout at them, or attack them personally. That is what you do - you approach people like a bully - plain and simple. But the fact is I do not think this will even get through to you at all.

Faerye - I do see your point. However the moral duty would really only be to herself(?) - she was the victim. Also, victims of domestic abuse do not often react in the way we would think they should. I do like the suggestion that community service would have been a better route. I am sure the judge had some discretion she could have used here.

Advocate, you complained to admin about me attacking you, yet here you are again stirring the pot and getting into something that didn't involve you.
You told admin you didn't want me to address you and I told admin that I wouldn't unless you unless you started with me then all bets were off. I also told admin that you start with me frequently and like now, jump into something that's between me and someone else, again something you do frequently. Maybe you should look at yourself.
Ever wonder why a lot of the Christian ladies don't post here anymore? Because you, and a SMALL minority attack them for their beliefs. They have enough shit going on in their lives and they don't want to be dumped on because they have different values and morals. The only difference between them and me is that I fight back with facts, something you and a few on here don't like. The first post I made to Rew, I posted a FACT, not a guess, opinion or assumption.

I get that, and IMO if she wasn't the victim, I would agree with it....but in this case she was. I have little tolerance for ACTUAL abusive people.
I had a friend who was being beat on by her boyfriend, I was there, and I called the police on him. Later she refused to testify (this was before the laws were changed) so I stepped in. I had no problem giving my statement...he took a plea and I was able to talk her into going to Women in Need to get help (once his influence was gone)
Thankfully, she was able to get on her feet, get her self-esteem back and is now happily married

I see where you are getting at, but I also know that when they force a victim to testify against their abuser, you are hurting the victim even more. I know your friend was afraid of her ex, and luckily she had you there so you could testify against him, and get her away from him. You also know that you can't force someone to leave, it has to be their decision to leave.

Oh, I know. I've seen the consequences of staying or at least staying too long. It drives me crazy. Thankfully, it's in the past and hopefully will not be something we have to deal with again.

I guess now they are filing for an official reprimand of the judge - this seems to be happening a lot in this area - the judge that was a real bee acth on my sons case had to get an official public reprimand (which I know it is not nice to gloat but I did enjoy seeing her on the other side of the podium)

I know that over the past year these types of situations have come under more and more scrutiny. In NY there was a rash of this going on and a bunch of groups had to step in and not only raise awareness and have several judges reprimanded.

OK, I see how it works here now, It is ok for advocate to attack me, but I just have to take and not give it back. She cried to you saying she didn't want me to address her personally and I haven't. I told you what would happen if she came at me again.
It is obvious now that a couple of people CONTROL this forum now and upset them at your own PERIL.

To those of you here that are new, I've been here for over 5 yrs and this forum was a SUPPORT forum, not an "I hate cops, I hate Christians, I hate conservatives, I hate anyone who disagrees with a FEW forum. This place has changed in the last year or so.

This post will probably be deleted and I may even get banned, I WILL stand up for my beliefs.
