In Texas, parole eligibility is dependent on the offense.
Here is some information that will explain to you how Texas determines the parole eligibility for inmates. Look it over and if you have problems understanding it, do not hesitate to contact me.

For parole purposes, those with 3g crimes must serve half their sentence before they are eligible for parole. 3g crimes are usually violent crimes such as rape, robbery, murder, kidnapping and most sex offenses.
Indecency with a child is classified as a “3g” offense in Texas. As a result, on a 17 year sentence, he will not be eligible for parole until he has served about eight years of his sentence.
Your husband did not receive a fair shake by our criminal justice system. First, a sixteen year old young lady is NOT a child. Any sexual contact between your husband and this “child” I assume was consensual. The young lady was not an eight year old who had no idea what was going on; instead, she bears some responsibility of what happened. Unfortunately, the criminal justice system does not think that way, so all the burden falls on the guy.
They do not call teenage girls “jailbait” for no reason. I help a lot of mothers and wives whose sons and husbands are also in prison or the sex offender registry because they were involved with an underage teenage female.
It is always appears ironic to me that our system wants to treat a 16 year old as a vulnerable victim and someone who is immature when they want to prosecute one of these types of cases. But you can bet the farm that if this same 16 year old “child victim” committed a violent crime, she would all of a sudden be converted from a paragon of virtue to a “dangerous offender” who needs to be tried as an adult. The DA or the state should not be able to have it both ways, but they do.
Your husband needs to mind his own business in prison, keep a low profile, take all the programs he can, and hope to make parole when he is eligible.
Sometimes guys with sex offenses have a difficult time in prison because of their charges. If he ever has any problem in prison, do not hesitate to contact me. I am on this board a couple of times a day, but the board where I post the most is here----

There is not a lot of traffic over there, but there are a lot of people----registrants, ex-inmates, mothers, wives of offenders-----who have a wealth of information about the system.
Keep your chin up and God bless you all.

Scroll down to 3.1.2 on page 9. It says----
“Child Victim Restrictions: An offender convicted and sentenced for current or prior crimes involving sexual offenses against children or offenses causing bodily injury to a child, during which the child victim was under the age of 17, is restricted from having contact visits with children under the age of 17.
The offender may have a general visit with a child under the age of 17, only if the offender is the legally recognized parent of the child and the child was not the victim of the sexual offense or bodily injury. The legal guardian must complete a Child Victim Restriction Affidavit (attached) attesting that the offender is the legally recognized parent of the child and that the child was not the victim of any sexual offense for which the offender has been convicted or placed on deferred adjudication before the visit may occur.”
From the little I know of your husband’s circumstances, it appears that he can indeed have his son visit him as long as you are there. But you will have to submit some paperwork to prove that he is the father and the child was not the victim of his offense.
My interpretation of the visiting rules in the Texas prison system is that his son can visit. But I would encourage you to call the visiting room in the prison where your husband is incarcerated and make sure the son can visit before you go.
