You want to get into a profession or job in which there will always be a job and an opportunity to earn the kind of salary to support your family.
Having been in the medical profession, nursing is a great opportunity. Nursing pays well, and you will never be out of a job as there will always be a demand for people in the medical profession, especially the nursing field. They always need nurses.
My ex-wife went back to nursing school after she got rid of me---ha ha----and my son, who lives with me now earned his RN degree, then his BS in nursing.
When he was an RN at a state hospital here, he was making around $25 an hour for a 40 hour week. Not bad pay at all. He now has his BS and he is in Nurse Practitioner school, so I don't know where that will go.
I just asked my son about the requirements. He said there is one year of pre-nursing----actually 36 hours---and then two years of nursing school to earn an RN degree. At least that is the way it is in Oklahoma.
He took the entire course at a local junior college, so the expenses were not great, as he lived with me while he went to school. They also offer a RN course at a Vo-Tech school about 12 miles away.
At least consider it. It is the best paying profession with the least amount of schooling for anyone. You can get your LPN first if you want and either way, you can work part-time while you go to school. You may also be eligible for a couple of grants or loans.
If you need more info, message me and I will talk to Chris.

I have a good job, and I volunteer with our church that has prison outreach programs that I participate in.
Funny story .. As many of you know my brother has autism and doesn't seem to grasp the concept of common sense. He found a course he could do through the mail, it was an excellent opportunity , required little traing.. His PO almost shit himself when he tried to get the final approval.. What was it he wanted to pursue??? Oh A LOCKSMITH . Um when he told me that I almost chocked on my food. I was like, you really think the public is going to give the green light for a SO to have the ability to pick door locks?? Ohh that was rich
You asked, "Rew .. Would an SO even be allowed to be a nurse and would any office / hospital hire them?"
Of course, Mom was asking for herself, but I will answer your question any way.
I don't know of any state that will issue a medical license for anyone convicted of a sex offense. In fact, most states will not issue a license for any vocation, even if it is not medical in nature.
Even if a nurse could somehow get a license by the state licensing agency, she would never be hired by anyone.
I knew a guy in prison that was denied a liquor license to serve alcohol at his restaurant because he had a drug and armed robbery conviction. Of course, teachers cannot hold a teacher's certificate if they have been convicted of a sex crime.
I had my pharmacy license revoked for life because of my conviction. The state board also made it a point to tell me that it would be impossible to ever get it back.
If state statutes do not prevent a registrant from working at certain jobs. the language of many professions' charters or by-laws use the "moral turpitude" clause to prevent anyone with a sex crime conviction from working in that area.
