I am hoping to hear from anyone who has information and experience with Interstate Compact. If those who were released from prison to another state or those who after release from prison were able to transfer later could share i would be most appreciative.

Is there anyone living in Oregon on this site? Anyone in Arizona on this site?

My son is currently incarcerated in Arizona, which is one of the worst states to be in as a registered sex offender . although he is not a predator or pedaphile and not a danger to anyone (he was arrested in a sting online chat room operation) he will be labeled as level 3 when released next July.

He is hoping to be released to Oregon, into a halfway house program that has already accepted him. I was told by the Oregon Interstate Compact PO that the Interstate Compact process needs to be started with his local PO, who said there had to be a family member either a spouse, parent, adult sibling or adult child that resides in Oregon for at least one year and will sponsor/support him.

Thank you again, Ralph i do have the ones you sent to my son end of august and these are the numbers I phoned but they all said I have to go through the local PO and she said that a family member needs to be in Oregon. I emailed a PO in Oregon that UGM gave me his email, as they said one of the men there has him as a PO. I got a reply right away and he said he did not know but he would refer my email to the interstate compact PO. Still waiting to hear back. Much Appreciation x

You need to check with the city you want your son to be transferred to and contact them to find out what they would say about the transfer. It's up to that state to allow your son in. I did that when I was thinking about moving out of Floriduh to PA, hoping my son would not have to be stuck in Floriduh.

There are a couple things that would help.
1. he has family living in the city he wishes to move to
2. he has a place to live, remember no children will be allowed to live with him
3. If he had a job waiting for him, that's a plus

When my son was released in Floriduh I was at the door, put him in the car and we were in Philly in time for him to check in with his new PO.

The local AZ PO here mentioned a family member had to reside in the other state (oregon) for at least one full year before release date to qualify. Was this required for your son to move to PA?

I would be willing to move to Oregon but it would be financially very difficult, and I do not have the finances to show how I would support my son, which is saddens me. I would move anywhere and live with him. I am just in a very challenging situation now. Also, I would not want to move until I knew he was accepted in Oregon, as I want to be close to him wherever he is, and if that is AZ I will stay here.

As I mentioned there is a respected halfway house program in Oregon that has accepted him to come on release to their facility and my hope is that this will be possible and then I would move as soon as I could to be near him and hopefully he would be able to live with me when he is able to. That is my hope and prayer.

I hope you and your son are doing well? How has it been for you both if you care to share this?

My fiance is out of AZ and he had the interstate compact to TX.

After he was released from jail in AZ he would be residing here in TX with his grandparents, whom he lived with previously.

AZ would not have released him back to TX had he no family here. Also, the courts saw the interstate compact as a better option than him staying in AZ upon his release because he had no one there and his family resided in TX and TX is his home state.

I can ask my fiance more about it tomorrow. He understands it better than I do. I do know that AZ will not do an interstate compact unless there is family or a very close and proven bond with some one that the person is being released to, and that family/person has to live in the county to which they are being released.
