Where the hell are all the 750,000 ex offenders and their families, still have their heads buried.
Oh, I don't mean violent protests, as that would do more harm than good. But petitions and writing letters to lawmakers just will not cut it.
We have to show the lawmakers---and the public---the we have families, with innocent children, that are being adversely affected by thes laws. The will never feel sorry for the registrants, but it is difficult to face a family with children and explain to them why these laws are being passed.
The time has come for us to DEMAND our rights rather than politely ASK for them. Unless we "take the gloves off" and organize ourselves with whatever it takes, nothing will ever change.
I don't know exactly what we can do, but organized marches or families meeting at the state capitals en masse would be a good start. We can no longer stand around with our hands in our pockets hoping that the lawmakers will suddenly have a change of heart and treat us like human beings---they won't.
rewdiazepam
I very seldom feel sorry for myself; I do focus on positive values in life, I see all the terror and injustice in this world and say well things could be a lot worst,
But I agree with you rewdiazepam, the letter writing and calling is not working, the donations being made are going to the wrong fights, The only fight that should be done it the fight for de registering, a simple, sane way off where you do not have to jump through a million hoops, and enough of these damn restrictions that set so many up for failure.
I am angry because what I agreed to and what I received is not the same, I have been lied to by the same law that demands respect but gives none.
So what is the answer?
Vent and complain on these boards for another 10, 15 years while they keep hammering away.
I am active in my state groups, but there has to be a better way to get more of the masses involved, and as you once said the more laws we fight the more that are passed, many that we are not even aware of until they enforce them.
Sorry for the vent, now I feel better, LOL
Do we demand that these retroactive laws be throw out, do we organize with the existing groups that are the strongest and forget about the other ones?
This is not about the punishment I received for my crime this is about allowing us to move on with OUR lives after the punishment that is never ending.

Coming back into the country (yours!) is a different story... see here (stories from California travelers): http://californiarsol.org/2013/01/international-travel/
Unpleasant and inconvenient, but certainly doable.
BTW - it appears that any kind of travel (over, I believe, 7 days) - even domestic, must be accompanied by notice in the AWA states.
"In addition, the Guidelines provide that sex offenders must be required to inform their residence jurisdictions about lodging at places away from their residences for seven days or more, regardless of
whether that results from domestic or international travel. See 73 FR at 38056, 38066."

I thought I saw a similar notification requirement from non-AWA states like Texas but I cannot find it now. I could be mistaken.
Please keep in mind that none of this is considered punishment. So declared just today by a NY Court....
