If he goes right in there and admits he has a sex crime---and especially if it is against his daughter, an underage female----he is just asking for problems and several confrontations.
I don't know how much time he received, but much will depend if he is in a minimum or medium security facility.
How long is his sentence?
At a minimum it won't matter as much, but if he finds himself at a medium with the really bad guys---the hardened criminals----PLEASE listen to me. Get a cover story compatible with his crime and STICK TO IT no matter what. Memorize that story a hundred times so he can recite it a moments notice.
Inmates, real convicts like those at mediums, hate sex offenders with a passion. They are down on the totem pole along with snitches and trust me, if he goes in there and tells people he is in there for a sex crime, he will not last long. They will approach him and advise him he needs another place to stay and he will have to catch out to prevent being hurt.
Yes, the inmates might be irritated if they find out later that he lied to them, but not nearly as irritated if they learn a person with a sex crime is living in "their neighborhood."
Some people have even told me that they don't want to lie to the other inmates???
Who cares? They are not your friends and you will never see them again after he is released. He owes them nothing. Prison is not Sunday School, it is a place where some very bad guys live.
The cover story gived him time to build some respect with the other inmates and gives them a chance to know him and learn to like him. THEN if they find out some day, the charges won't matter as much. When he first goes in they don't know if he is a decent guy or some serial child molester. He needs to show them he is an OK guy.
But if he is at a minimum, he will be all right. At a minimum, they just give sex offenders dirty looks; at mediums, in the beginning, they bring out the weapons.
I had one lady argue with me and tell me her son just could not lie. After trying to convince her, I finally said, "OK, go in there and if asked, tell them about your crime." He did exactly that and was stabbed 11 times in the chest.
I have seen all this happen.
He needs to go in there, be just one of the guys, keep his mouth shut, mind his own business, do not talk to staff, keep a low profile, and do his time. No snitching and no borrowing anything if he cannot pay. Snitching is the number one way to get hurt in prison and borrowing and not paying is number two.
You may miss a car payment on the outside, but you will not miss one in prison.
Good luck and if you need more info, message me.

I live in Texas too. I will send you a personal message and we can talk.
My man has been in for five months now and he is doing okay. The cover story is important. I will pass on what I have learned from experience and from friends here on this board.
My thoughts and prayers are with you today. Cherish every moment of your day together and enjoy each other. I know there are a lot of worries and concerns today but don't focus on that right now. Hold him, tell him you love him, you will write and visit when you can.
I know it's scary ( I've been there!) but everything is going to be okay and you'll get through.
Look for the PM!

Also listen to Rew he really knows what his talking about!
Enjoy this bit of time that you have with him it will go way to fast.
Hugs.
My husband is in it for more than a month now. We used to do everything together. It was hard at beginning without him. but you learned to focus on the here and now. Don't let the worries get to you and immobilize you. Just focus on here and now and the tasks on hand. The time will pass, and I find myself able to handle things better now than the first day when he went in.
Welcome and come here often too. The knowledge and support that I get from here help me cope with my stress a lot!
