It may take a day or two for him to be listed. He will be transfered to a reception center, where he will be evaluated to determine his security level. This is supposed to take about 90 days, before he is moved to his assigned prison.

It's not impossible to get approved to be a visitor while in reception, but it can take longer to be approved and will have to resubmit paperwork at the new prison.

You will have to wait for him to send you a letter in the mail (at least in CA, they can't make calls in reception). Good news though, calls are cheaper in prison, than they are on country.

If he is in Tennessee, he was shipped from the county jail to the Bledsoe County Correctional Complex in Pikeville. BXXC is the diagnostic and assessment center for all male inmates sentenced to the Tennessee Department of Corrections.

He probably will not be able to communicate with you for a week or so. Most assessment centers run a tight ship, so contact with the outside world is somewhat limited. He should be there for four to six weeks, at which time he will be transferred to his destination prison within the Tennessee Department of Corrections.

When my hubs was transferred (about a month ago) I didn't hear from him for a couple weeks till they got all his stuff figured out and he made his way to his prison. We had expected the transfer though so when I got the call my visit was cancelled I knew why. He did call me once he got settled. However if he is in the federal system he needs money for phone calls or mail so you need to keep checking the BOP website to see what his inmate number is and follow the directions to send him some money or you won't hear him. All the money for federal goes through one central area so it doesn't matter what prison he is at or gets transferred the money goes with him.

It's pretty much the same in the state systems. Money on the books and /or maybe he'll need an OK to make collect calls to your phone # if you live with one of his "victims" etc. Once all the hoops are jumped through you will be allowed to pay for the calls. They'll just monitor/ record all your calls after that!

Kristina, always remember that ALL calls are monitored so speak accordingly.

ALL incoming mail is read in any prison type environment. They don't usually bother with outgoing mail-----mail from the inmate to someone outside----UNLESS the inmate is under some type of administrative investigation; but they have the right to do that at anytime.

Also, whever your husband receives a letter from anyone, as soon as he has read the letter, tell him to tear off the return address and flush it. I have seen inmates steal return address from other inmates and cause problems for the family by either calling them or pestering them in some manner.

Always keep this in mind.

Thanks! I was thinking it was either Morgan county or Bledsoe. And thanks for the advice about the letters and return address.. in have enough drama without being harassed.. when he was in county it wasn't a month before someone found out his charges and he was moved to a protective pod. His prayers were answered tho, no trial because he pled guilty and it's only been a month since his sentencing that he got transferred.. he prayed for all this to proceed quickly.

They read all my mail when he was in county. It had to be a postcard. I saw him almost weekly too.. I haven't hugged him since Sept 4. I was in the courtroom and sat where he could steal a glance. That was so hard seeing him in cuffs and leg shackles. I truly hope this has made him want to change his way of thinking and want to get help. He reads the bible and sends me quotes he's read and talks about how selfish he was. I'm a skeptic. I am very unsure that I will be able to trust him ever again. And we won't be able to live together for a while. I pray daily for God to help me decide to stay or divorce him. I think I'm listening but I'm so unsure what he's saying. I have heard God a lot. I stepped way out of my comfort zone by allowing my homeless ex stay on my couch until he can move on. That was an interesting conversation with God. But it was clear as day. In second guess Him about my husband. I know the difficulties that lie ahead. I am afraid. Afraid of when he gets out and his heart is broken because everyone but the ones directly affected turned their back on him. I actually live near a few, I also understand that it could be as simple as a 19 yr old who had a 14 yr old Gf. I just try to remain aware who my kids talk to. All this mess has made me so much more aware. Sometimes I wish I could go back to the time in my life I was ignorant to certain things..

There is no need to make a decision on stay/go for at LEAST 6 months to a year. You will find that you are far stronger than you ever realized. No need to rush out and find someone else either... Just stabilize your own situation, keep your job/ income, take care of your kids....and see how it goes. And tell your husband that is what you are doing. Not as a threat to hang over his head but just because you have both been through so much that there is no need to take on more heartache. Tell yourself "all I know is that I don't know" and keep on keeping on. Visit, write, but decide not to decide. Because right now the chaos probably feels pretty overwhelming so this is probably not exactly the time to make earth shaking decisions (at east not until the earth stops shaking over his arrest etc) Take Care. I can understand what you're feeling. When my husband was moved from county to the RDU(Reception and DIAGNOSTIC Unit.). I was in a panic. I hadn't been able to touch him since April 30,2014 until January 1, 2015. He was moved Nov 4,2014 and was moved to his "prison" on my birthday in DEC. He couldn't call me for about 2 weeks. They gave him 4 stamps and 4 envelops and 12 sheets of paper and a little golf pencil. That's all he got. It took forever to get approved for his phone list and when I applied for visitation it took about 6 weeks.
I also had the feeling of shall I stay or shall I go. Obviously I chose to stay with him. We went through so much together before his arrest including the untimely death of my daughter that we are soulmates. I have a lot of stress and depression and anxiety . I'm working through it. This board has been a wealth of information. It has eased some of my anxiety. I still have it, but its a little more manageable.
